Some questions about a Stealth EX

Hi all, new here. There's a Stealth EX on eBay I'm interested in getting; the buyer bought it for his daughter, but I dunno how much he knows about it, and he suggested I search online anyway. Dunno how you all feel about people buying guitars off eBay, but it's pretty cheap and the best place to search for lefties.

The serial number starts with 94, which I'm guessing means it would manufactured in 1994, and in Japan. I saw on an older thread http://www.jcfonline.com/threads/104...son-Stealth-EX that they're decent guitars, but I'd like to know how they would stack up against a hotrodded 2003 MIM Strat, and a stock Peavey Predator EXP Plus (dunno about the year it was made).

I've also read that the Floyd it comes with is only okay. Are they made out of metal? The Floyd on my Peavey is made out of ABS plastic, and it causes the strings to feel cheap when I'm playing, along with having short sustain, and I'm sure the stock pickups don't help much either.

So basically, would it feel like a real guitar, considering the bridge, and would it be better than the aforementioned guitars? Any help would be appreciated, but since I'm on a Charvel/Jackson forum, guitars which Mille Petrozza, Scott Ian and Criss Oliva (RIP) used, I think I'm in the right place.

The Floyd on my Peavey is made out of plastic, which is why I asked, considering I'm not looking at a Soloist, but a lower-end guitar.

Check your pm's i sent u a few links to guitars under $300 and better IMO. Stealths are nice guitars And maybe its worth $350 to some, but i personally would spend $300 on something else.

Do you think the problems I'm having with sustain have to do with setup and/or the pickups? While aspects of it do feel better than my Strat, parts of it just feel cheap. Plus I have problems with the bar staying tight in the sleeve. It came with a righty bar though, so I dunno if that might have anything to do with it (I play lefty).

I just want a guitar that really feels like an extension of myself.

Here's my take. A stealth EX is a lower model with features I don't personally like. But I haven't played one and haven't heard they are bad persay. But look at what you'd probably wind up replacing. I'm not a fan of basswood as far as tone and often feels very light and cheap feeling. But outside of that, the JT580 (not LP) is IMO one of the worst trems on a jackson (I thought the one I played felt cheap). I've never even heard of a J75 and J100 or 110s without any of the JE active electronics (which the catalogs don't show) are very blah.. I don't think the Stealth EX is going to be a huge jump in feel from the Strat, probably not the Predator either as it's about the same features.

IMO, you'd be better off with a nicer alder or poplar Dinky (DK2, DKMG, XL, etc..) for about $300-350. Again.. My opinion.. Good luck.

I thought my Stealth was great until I spent time with my DKMGT.
The DK isn't going anywhere!

The stealth EX is a good guitar and far better than the two you mentioned.
That model was only made for a short time IIRC.
The JT 580 LP is a damn good trem I have abused mine for decades.
The stock pick ups are fine too @ the J100 single is a vintage single coil and I have never seen one used with a mid boost pre amp wiring.
The J200 is a stacked single that was used with the active mid boost pre amp.
To assume the stock Jackson pick ups are crap from the get go you are deff wrong about that.

This is the one on eBay I'm interested in. I've never been a fan of active pickups, because they require a battery to play the guitar through an amp before going into anything at all.

I don't know much about Floyds; how could I tell a metal one apart from a plastic one, aside from how cold it feels?

Besides, how would I know Jackson is for me without checking out their lower end? I don't want to start off spending $600 and up and find out that Jackson isn't a good fit for me.

Are there any cheaper Charvels that have been made?

There are plenty of inexpensive Charvels.
Avoid Charvette though.
But a Charvel is not the same as a Jackson.

And...if you would pay attention there have been many great suggestions regarding low cost Jacksons.
