Hey, I got a Jackson SDX on a trade, rosewood fingerboard. I liked the guitar, looks cool and the stock humbucker sounds much better than I expected.

However it has a problem. The high E string is too close to the end of the frets! It's impossible to play it that way. Is there any thing I can do to fix it?

Yes! I keep saying this but people must swap I guess. I really didn't need mine, but I decided to keep it because I liked the way it played and sounded.

Many threads on this. I wonder what's up? I don't have a problem with mine.

I had a JS32R for a week and it had the same problem but not that bad. This doesn't happen on my slxt...

Pics? Could be the nut, the placement of the bridge or the set of the neck. A pic would help determine the cause and solution.

You could try shifting the neck. First slack the strings, then loosen the neck bolts, gently(!) pull the neck towards the upper horn and while you have (very light) pressure on it, tighten them back up. It won't make much difference at the nut end but after the 12th fret it can be a millimeter or so.

Do not crank hard on the neck while doing this or you risk cracking the pocket finish and/or the pocket itself.

That may be a good idea, but the problem could be "transferred" to the low E. Check out the pic.

Dude that is pretty bad! When I first bought my SDX the high E would slip but I got used to it and no longer happens but mine is not that far out like yours. From what I remember someone changed the nut on their SDX to a narrower one.

I have a 42mm nut but it has a shorter width (?). I'll try to get another nut and try it. Looks like it's a chronic issue with jackson.

I tried the trick suggested by Hellbat, but it didn't changed much. Still about the same. Whatnut should I try, with a narrower string spacing?

It looks like it is equally close all the way down the board, right? So there's no alignment problem, it's a spacing problem from what i see. If it is, what nut is it? Most Jacksons are R3 but it could be an R4. They are the same width but the string spacing is wider that an R3. You could swap to a R3. Also, the Floyd Rose Pro (low profile) is narrower string spacing than the OFR so that could help as well.

                      I have to check but I think it's an R3 or R43.

Yep, narrower nut or wider neck. That's pretty extreme.

Honestly it looks like the neck's warped... if you look it's got the right spacing at the nut and first fret on the high e string (low E is a mess right from word go). But gets worse as it moves down the neck.... I'm sorry but I don't think this is 100% QC. This is why even if I can't play a guitar when I buy it I check the neck to make sure everything's true before I buy or trade. You can try a smaller spaced nut but that's about all that'll correct this. Good luck man, that sux ass.

It's really bad on the first frets, but it gets acceptable down the neck. The low E is close to the edge but it plays fine. The 09 strings it came equipped make it worse too.
