  • Jackson DX10D?

This is a Jackson Dinky I bought from a pawn shop for $220.

My friends on UG say it's an X-Series DX10D, probably before 2006. However we can't be sure because Jackson serial numbers are indecipherable.

Here is the serial number: 00102049

    A few questions:

    1) Am I right about it being a DX10D?
    2) Would http://www.ebay.com/itm/300854140281 <--- that tremolo arm be good for it?
    3) What sizes allen wrenches should I get?
    4) Did I get a good deal on it?
    Gear:
    Ibanez RG421 - Jackson JTX - Peavey Vypyr 15

    Gear I want:
Korina Flying V in Alpine White - Les Paul flame-top in heritage cherry sunburst - Silverburst SG - Mockingbird STQ in trans purple

The wrenches should be the same as for any floyded guitar. Certainly looks like a DX10D. Real question is, does it sound and play good to you. Before Ron gets in there, remember to GTWGITS!

The neck pickup's shit, but the bridge pickup is great. It plays perfect, although I'm not sure about the floyd because I don't have the bar on it.

Don't need the bar unless you need to wank it If you don't have any spare bars, your local guitar shop should have some. I'd also suggest adjusting the height on your neck pickup before coughing up for a replacement.

Well, considering someone removed the socket for the bar.....

And yes, it should be a DX10D, though not sure myself of the serial. Once they got that high, I lost the ability to track them
Take off the neck and the model should be stamped on the heel.

The good news is that an OFR will replace that trem, but the posts and nut will probably have to stay like they are.

Not a bad price for that guitar, though some will always say "you overpaid".

An OFR will not fit in that route.
It's a JT-500 trem, the route is to small for an OFR.
You could put a Schaller in there though.

So, would a bar that was designed for a JT585LP (when I search for that I just get the nut, so eBay error?) fit with the JT500 bridge? And before I spend $150 on a Schaller, how good is the JT500?

Find a bar and collar on eBay around twenty together.

The JT-500 is crap, but works fine if you're not a heavy trem user.
                  The metal is soft.

A Schaller trem arm and collar will fit perfectly.
Under $15 at Stewmac. This is a genuine Schaller part and will likely outlast the trem.

Ah, didn't notice the Schaller-style fat barrels. Saw the ends and thought it was the Floyd-style. My mistake, so yeah, OFR will be too long. Of course you could always route the excess wood. It's only a DX10D, after all

An OFR technically will fit, but the string lock screws will overhang the edge of the route. You can combat that by modding the screws to make them shorter or finding shorter replacement ones from a hardware store.
It's all about the blues-rock chatter.

I'd rather grind out the wood. The Floyd could always be sold for a decent price, but the guitar will only decrease in value

Is there some kind of serial-reading guide? Like what to look for, etc? Because it just looks like a bunch of numbers to me.

Would I be able to talk someone who doesn't know a 2000 MII from a 2005 MIJ that it is worth trading for an Ibanez RG560? Notably http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/msg/3822294488.html <-- that one?

This forum won't let me make cool hyperlinks where I can say click here and it takes them there.
