My matte black KEXTMG arrived today. My last NGD on here (Charvel Star) was in sad circumstances when my daughter was still-born and I tried to cheer myself up with a new guitar but this marks a much nicer time with the birth of my new son Riley and the success of my first novel Wolf's Head. :-)

I've played it a bit tonight and it's stunning. It was a "shop soiled" guitar, which, to me, always means you get a guitar the shop setup right. There are no dings, the frets are perfect with no dead spots and it sounds great into my Toneport (will try an amp tomorrow). It feels MUCH better on the strap than my old KE3 ever did - that KE3 never sounded right, it never felt right and although I put a bound neck on it (from a DK2) it never quite looked the business either. THIS does the lot AND it feels fantastic to play. The neck isn't unfinished, it has the same matte black finish as the body and feels brilliant to play.

In the UK a USA made Jackson costs a huge amount of money, so I've stuck to the imports over the years and I've owned a few now. Most of them (MIJ) I sold because I never liked them for whatever reason - I now have my old Concept JDR-94, a MIC Charvel Star, a MIJ SL3 and now this. The SL3 is the best guitar I've ever played and this KEXTMG is most certainly on a par with it, despite being MIC (which means nothing to me).

Enough of this shit, here's the pics. :-)

Nice score bro! HNGD! Quick question. I can get a left handed USA Kelly for about $2400.00 US dollars. How much of a price difference is there in the UK?
This is what I think of Gibson since 1993. I HATE BEING LEFT HANDED! I rock out to Baby metal because Wilkinsi said I can't listen to Rick Astley anymore.

Looks great! I'm glad you managed to locate one.

Looks awesome. I love flat black guitars till they start polishing up from use.

Also - Nice job on the book.. And very sorry about your daughter..

Thanks guys, much appreciated :-) Lefty, I have no idea how much that would cost, the only KE2 near me is a right handed one and it's pre-owned, costs about £1200! If I was spending that on a guitar it would a late 70's Hamer Sunburst (like Martin Barre's old one).
In comparison, the KEXTMG cost £363 plus the postage and import fees.

Oh, and on the MIJ vs MIC thing. The RR5 I sold was a very fine example of an RR5, but I sold it for £350 and paid about £550 for the KEXTMG with import taxes and postage, and I'm so much happier with the MIC Kelly.
MIJ vs MIC or whatever means fuck all.

Oh, the guitar came in a hardshell Jackson case, but it wasnt packed great and has two pretty big cracks on corners. Any simple way to repair that? I was planning on selling it but the value is pretty much ruined now so I may as well hang onto it.

Why must they put that f0king volume knob under the pickup ? It drives me nuts always having to hit that little sh!t while playing with the picking hand. If a day comes when they stop doing that, then it will be a perfect guitar.

No sure way to fix the case, sadly. You can get some black automotive body repair tape or gaffer's tape. Something strong and really sticky to adhere to the finely-dimpled case surface.Unless some nutjob cleaned it up with furniture polish. If you've never experienced an SKB-style case that someone sprayed Pledge or Endust on, you should know it takes fire to remove it
