  • Jackson SDX - nut question and high E string?

So I tried out the import version at GC and really liked it. The neck was just awesome. After reading up on it here (and experiencing this myself), the high e string is very near the edge. Someone had said by swapping out the nut would fix this. Can someone tell which one specifically and how hard is it to do? Is it something as easy as unscrewing the old and replacing with the new or are the screw holes different?

    thanks

    jeff

I had a problem like that with one of my old Jacksons. The nut is, from memory, 43mm, and I just replaced it (straight swap in terms of screw holes) with a 42mm one. The numbers may be wrong, but the theory is sound! ;-)

My SDX came with an R 4-5 nut I fixed the E string issues by using a R3 nut.
You will have to dowel the old holes and drill new ones because the R3 mounting holes are just a bit closer to the end of the fingerboard.
Just make sure the back of the nut is up against the end of the fingerboard solidly. You will have just a bit of nut shelf showing with the R3 nut but the string spacing will be perfect.
You could try it first but thats what I did.
