  • Info needed on DK2

Hi, new member and first post here. I'm fairly new to Jackson guitars and came across this forum after searching the internet. Anyway, I'm looking to buy a used Jackson, but before I do I just wanted to get some more information and advice. I'm currently looking at a DK2 for sale. It's a MIJ model with 7 digit serial number that starts with 985****. The body is black, the tremolo and hardware are also black, and the pickup configuration is H-S-S with Seymour Duncan pickups. If you don't mind, is there anyone who can give me a little more info on this guitar - like what year it's likely from, what kind of wood the body is made from, and what a decent price for it would be? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

My guitar is 9853xxx and it's dated June 2011. It would have an alder body.

    EDIT: And...welcome to the forum!

    96xxxxx, 97xxxxx and 98xxxxx serials oftentimes don't indicate '96, '97 and '98.

Alder body and maple neck with rosewood board. If its got real Duncans and not the designed garbage then should be set on a solid guitar man.

      Welcome!

Thanks, guys! I appreciate the info. That's just what I was hoping to hear. And yes, it has real Seymour Duncans - not the Duncan Designed pickups. Glad to hear it's alder, too. The only thing is that I may have to get a tremolo bar for it. Will that be hard to find? Do I need to look for a certain model/kind? The tremolo says Jackson on the side and 'Licensed Under Floyd Rose Pat.' across the bottom. Like I said, I'm not real familiar with these types of guitars, so forgive me if this is a dumb question. And thanks again for the help!

Should have a JT580LP tremolo, but I know next to nothing about trems. Someone helpful should be along. You could check the 'Tech' section for threads on replacement arms or start a thread there.

Just as Mudlark said should be a JT580 LP. Solid trem, I have one on my DK2M and it has served me well. Its made by Takeuchi, and has been on mid level to high end Jackson imports for 20 years or so if that says anything to ya.

That trem arm should do the trick, but here is a better quality one (made by Schaller) for a little more$ http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Bridges,...loyd_Rose.html

With the OFR arms you will probably have to replace the collar as well as the arm. I think I remember hearing it fits a bit loose in the JT580LP collar. And if I remember correctly, some have had to slightly drill out the baseplate to fit the collar correctly. This thread has some info and towards the bottom Dalytek says an arm from guitar fetish fits the JT580 collar perfect. Hope it helps. http://www.jcfonline.com/threads/114...rm-for-JT580LP Probably this one>> http://www.guitarfetish.com/Floyd-Ro...ack_p_262.html

                  And welcome..

Cool, thanks! I'd like to avoid any incompatibility issues if at all possible. I found one on ebay that's from an actual JT580LP tremolo, so I might just order that one. Seems like the easiest solution, although it's good to know the guitar fetish will fit as well. Maybe I'll order one of those just to have an extra one. It sure seems like those arms get lost a lot.

Should have yourself a killer guitar. I've got a DK2M with Duncans and love it.

I have 9848xxx. It was given (from members here) an estimate as being 2010. That was slightly off, lol.
Recently had the neck off. It is stamped are 11-10 (neck) and 12-1 (body) of 2005.

Okay, so I'm a little confused by the different tremolo bars. The ones from Stew Mac and fretsonthenet seem to come with an extra piece (a socket?), like this…

                            Stew Mac/Frets On The Net

where the on ebay and guitarfetish don't seem to have that piece.

                            guitarfetish/ebay

Would it be better to get the ones with the socket or does it matter?

Oh, and thanks again for all the replies/help. I really appreciate it.

Strange, but not surprising. Checking the stamp is always best since there are inconsistencies and numbers can be changed. I have a list of numbers confirmed with date stamps and I would have called 9848xxx late 2010 or 2011 since my guitar is 9853xxx stamped 2011 June and 9742xxx is stamped 2005 April. There's a clear, consistant, pattern with the Japanese numbers from the late '90s until they stopped a couple years ago, but, occasionally a monkey wrench gets thrown in the mix.
