    This changes everything...

First, the DKMG. I, personally, do not like the neck profile on them. I haven't played a Kelly, to know what neck they have. But the DKMG is different than every other Jackson I own or have previously owned. I would suggest that you play one before you buy one. Its actually not a bad neck, but not what I expected when I blindly bought a Jackson. I expect certain things from Jackson, DKMG isn't it. Slap another brand name on it, and I would not be disappointed.
Nice guitar, but if I was blindfolded, I would never play it and think it was a Jackson neck.

Next up, the warranty. I can't speak for Jackson dealership agreements specifically, but many manufacturers are putting in terms that do not cover web sales. It protects the local dealers. Why would anyone pay for a 'territory' if you can go into a store and then price shop online? One answer is: warranty service.
I have played them in the past. I know what to expect on the neck. I think they feel the same as my Kelly. With the warranty issue, I am really only concerned with the neck, if its gone this long, and its straight, I should be good there. Its been very seasoned. Thoughts?

That was about the time they dropped the boost feature and 3rd control knob if I'm not mistaken.
      96xxxxx, 97xxxxx and 98xxxxx serials oftentimes don't indicate '96, '97 and '98.

9848*** is a late 2005 dkmg serial (date on neck pocket).

Thanks guys. It will be very interesting to get my hands on it. Japan Jackson dating is so weird. lol. I have zero reason to believe I am getting hosed up to this point. With a return option, the risk/reward I couldn't pass up. Dating the damn thing will be fun

9722391 should be 2004 since 97231xx was date stamped Sept. 2004. I'm a little surprised that's on a guitar without the 3rd knob and boost. There are oddballs, pianoguyy, its been well established. I suppose at the end of the day, the year isn't as important as the quality.

I am for sure going to pull the neck when it arrives. Like I said though, I really have no doubts thus far that this guitar was able to stay in a storage situation for so long without being touched. Sounds lije he aquired too many guitars. He opened a couple of more stores, quit being a jackson dealer, and collects and sells rarities... its worth a shot for a mint Japanese Jackson. I frikkin love them. I'd have USA's, but I love bare wood necks.

Here's a secret of store owners and some employees.

                We get our stuff free.
The store pays for it. We take it home. We bang the shit out of them. We return them to stock. We sell it.
Factory blemish. Demo model. Rental. Shipping damage.

If its never been sold, its still new. Doesn't matter if its been used or not.

Best of luck. If you do decide to remove the neck and check the date stamps I'm always looking to add another number to my list.

The T would be for tune-o-matic bridge. DKMG has a trem, DKMGT does not. Unless it's a much older guitar where Jackson used to have T as the trem designation.

Yeah, I was reading what I wrote and wondered if someone was going to take it the wrong way. My apologies to those who did.

The T is for the BRIDGE type.
The dkmg came with a trem as standard. The T was for TOM, not trem.

The point I was making, even though intent was not clear, was that the T is the bridge situation. It is not used to designate Turbo Boost the way you sometimes find printed online.

I have a DKMGT in Cobalt blue and its a monster. Mine has the HZs in it but I honestly like those better than the actives. Mine is really heavy too. Almost Less Paul weight to it but it sounds great. The firestorm I never use though. Think I may rewire to have 2 volumes and a tone
                            It's pronounced soops

Possibly. And its not uncommon to find a different date on neck than on the body. Its also not unheard of to find the neck is stamped with a different model than the body, such as a KE3 neck on a Dinky, directly from the factory.
                                96xxxxx, 97xxxxx and 98xxxxx serials oftentimes don't indicate '96, '97 and '98.
