  • Any love for the pro series King V Standard? (93-95)

There seems to be a lot of these floating around in the wild on any given day. I'm not quite sure what to make of them. Seems like the main issue is the neck as its a gruesome combination of things people do not want on a metal V (rosewood, dots, 22 frets).

The poplar body on the Std. is interesting. I was wondering if the pocket could take an ebony 22 fret neck from another pro era Jackson and if it would be worth it, sound wise.

Poplar is supposed to sound similar to alder from what I hear. I have 2 alder guitars that sound great. Rosewood is probably the best fret board wood. It doesn't look dirty easy and takes a lot of abuse, thats why every one uses rosewood
    It's pronounced soops

A friend of mine had a KV Standard in the early '90s... it was a very nice guitar. Poplar and alder do sound similar. I've got a '94 Dinky HX that's poplar, and it sounds great. I don't mind rosewood, but I guess any other 22-fret neck from that era should work fine on the KV.

First thing I've ever heard that

Anyway, mine was a good (and great sounding) guitar, but it was in a condition not worth the investment for repair, so gave it to someone who
wanted to take a shot at rebuilding it

I could care less about inlays and fret board wood most of the time. As long as the guitar sounds and plays well. That's all I care about.
This is what I think of Gibson since 1993. I HATE BEING LEFT HANDED! I rock out to Baby metal because Wilkinsi said I can't listen to Rick Astley anymore.

I have a 93' King V Std that I installed an Original Floyd on it and I love it! Great player, I like the 22 fret neck with the rosewood board personally. I've never heard anyone complain about that combo except maybe some new metal kids who have to have their stupid Schecters.
