  • DK2S owners and electronics guys, I need your help

I picked up a DK2S in a trade. Since they had Duncan Designed pickup in them I wasn't too concerned with them sounding a little muddy when I went for a test drive. But after getting a JB installed the guitar still sounds muddy when not using the sustainiac. Also, when I pulled out the battery the pickup sounds normal.

I checked the wiring diagram. Everything was stock when I got it so the only modification was swapping out the bridge. Are any DK2S owners experiencing anything similar?

Could be a bad wiring job between the circuit and stock controls. Could have also been a bad battery.

I would redo the wiring. I had one and had to redo it. I ran the plug straight to the pickup to see what it would sound like first and it was night and day!

Can someone post a pic of their control cavity for reference please?

I emailed Maniac Music and Alan Hoover emailed me back on a Saturday asking me to send back the board. I think they're just going to send me a new one. After doing a search on Alan and Maniac it appears they have excellent customer service. I also had my tech check out the Sustainiac this morning and he agrees it's the board.

Did you actually try changing the battery? I had to do that when I first got mine, and I also had a dodgy 5 way switch causing issues, which I had to clean with some spray.

It's easy to bjork the pot when installing it onto a guitar, and if MM is willing to fix it or replace it, I'd take them up on it.

Got the circuit board back on Thursday and installed over the weekend. No more muddiness. I don't know what he fixed but for $25 extra I got the harmonic mode upgraded so that it's similar to what they're making now. I really love how Maniac Music stood behind their product. It was never a battery issue. I was thinking it might have been a bypass issue. All I know is they fixed it for free and for a few bucks extra it's supposed to be similar to what's out now.
