DKMGT questions

Hi gang,

I was registered here a few years back, then ended up selling my PC-1. I just got a DKMGT, so I'm back! it has EMG-HZ pups (which I don't like) and the "turbo" gain booster (which I do like).

questions - what pups do y'all like in your DKMGT's (or other alder shredders)?
and, i assume i can use the booster circuit w/ any passive pups, right?

I'm an actives kinda guy but I put a Dimarzio D'Activator X in my DK2 & have loved it ever since, so that's one option. I like the Super Distortion too but don't have any in alder so I couldn't say.
Most of my regular players have EMGs.

right on. i have EMGs in my Ibby RG, and actually have another set (minus the lo Z pots etc) that a pal just gave me in case i dont find something passive i like for the jackson. i'm selling off a strat, so i wanted to put an alnico strat neck pup in to cover the few tunes we do that have that chimey fender tone (monkey business, higher ground). someone is sending me a duncan JB, i was never a fan of those in the past, but they were in different guitars (24.75" set neck mahogany hamers, mostly). we do 80's metal stuff (VH, whitesnake, judas priest, etc). i will look into the d'activator, thx

ok, i just put a duncan performer detonator in my jap jackson, its way better than the EMG HZ (passive) that was stock, good full high gain crunch, surprising good for an import pup. this guitar can hang w/ my ibanez w/ (active) EMGs for metal tones. my best guitar is a semihollow hamer w/ rio bbq bridge pup & semour duncan phatcat (hum sized P90) neck pup, but its more polite for jazz & mid gain rock.

heres the jackson, next up for it is an alnico strat pup for the neck slot;

I've got a 2011 DKMGT and love it to death. As you may know, the 2006 and newer models came with EMG 81/85's and a tone and volume knob. No boost feature.

I also have the newer dkmgt,swaped out the emgs and installed blackouts and wow,paired with a 5150=big thrashing.

its finished, great straty neck pup tones w/ a GFS alnico strat pup ;




its so dark its hard to tell if its black or dark green, but you can tell the difference in the 2nd pic between the black plastic neck pup mount and the dark green finish;

i don't like neck humbuckers, too muddy. even my Ibby RG has an EMG model H (hum sized single) in the neck slot.
the hamer has my all time fave neck pup, a duncan phatcat (hum sized P90).

just sold my fender strat, as the jackson is the same scale & wood (25.5" alder),
and now gets me those straty neck pup tones (and has the KILLER jackson neck)...

I never regretted selling my DKMG. I think the thing was cursed.

I had a DKMG with EMG 81/85 and it was amazing. It was my first big guitar purchase and felt and sounded sooo good. Unfortunately I found the higher frets hard to play on strat shapes so ended up selling it.

Glad you're enjoying it, brother! I picked up a Jackson about 2 weeks ago. My first reverse since I sold my Hamer back in the day.....
