  • Japanese Jackson –*but what kind?

It seems like I'm getting my second Jackson in just a few weeks.

The serial stamped on the neck plate is 9635233, which means Japan made. Three mics, two humbuckers and one single coil. One volume and one tone control, three point switch, 24 frets.

    Anyone?

Looks like a PS4 Performer with a swapped neck.
Though, I'm not sure the PS4 came with that tremolo, so I may be corrected.
The serial indicates made in Japan, either 1996 or 1999ish, depending on what model it belongs to. A '96 would probably have 'Performer' or 'Professional' on the headstock, but if the neck has been swapped it's hard to say whether the number goes with the neck or body.
    Anyone else?
    96xxxxx, 97xxxxx and 98xxxxx serials oftentimes don't indicate '96, '97 and '98.

It looks like something is written on the tip. Maybe PS?

OK, so I picked this up today. There is nothing written on the tip. The guitar is more worn than you can tell from the picture, but really nice to play. The neck is the best Jackson neck I've encountered so far (sure, I've only just started to explore this particular brand, but I've tried out at least ten different Jacksons in the past few weeks). I think I'll get rid of the Randy Rhoads RX10D I bought a month ago, which probably has better hardware (Duncan Designed instead of Jackson pickups) and has been taken better care of in the past – but it hasn't got this neck...

If you remove the neck and check, you may find a model name/names on the neck and in the pocket. I'd be interested to know if it's indeed a neck swap as I expect it is.

Look at this catolog page. Your guitar looks like a PS4 with different knobs and a newer neck. http://support.jacksonguitars.com/ca...96_catalog.pdf

Could also be an older DR3 body with a newer neck. IIRC that was the only other H-S-H model.

You mean DK3... that was HSH. The DR3 was HH.

Right, DK3. Thought that sounded funny. Meh, too many mid-90s variants.

I know! Way too many Dinky variants out there, it's hard to keep track.

Could be a JDR-94 - the body certainly looks like mine.

Oh, I forgot to mention – the body is not totally black, but has really tiny glittery things in it (sorry, don't know the right English expression). Too subtle to show on a 72 dpi photo.

The cover on the back over the springs sits on top of the body, i e it's not level with the body. Just screw holes beneath, but not cut out round the edges of the hollowing for the cover to level with the body. Isn't that kind of crude carpentry-wise?

                            Same as on my JDR-94.
