  • Need help to identify this guitar

    Hi Guys.

I was wondering if anyone recognised the guitar in these photos?

I looked through all the jackson catalogs and the closest thing I found was probably the Jackson AT-1, but I know it is not that.

From the serial number 9637359 I found that this guitar was MIJ in 1996 but I can't find any more info.

There is no other name or model on the guitar.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Regards
    David

Wow, not sure about that. It does look like the USA made AT1, but with an import neck and serial??
A Musicians Friend or other dealer exclusive? The number may be 1996, but I'd guess it's more like 1999-2000. That number format had two different meanings.

You could remove the neck and check for a model stamp in the pocket and/or on the neck heel.
    96xxxxx, 97xxxxx and 98xxxxx serials oftentimes don't indicate '96, '97 and '98.

      Hi, thanks for the reply.
i see what you mean about the 96 serials not necessarily being from 1996.
This guitar was from around that time though. My brother bought it brand new from
a retail store in Australia for $1300. We were just talking about it today and realised after all these
years we had no idea what model it was. The neck definitely hasn't been changed since purchase.
If all else fails I'll check out under the neck. Clearly it's due for a bit of TLC anyway.

$1300? For an import in the mid-'90's? Yikes.
My logic behind the serial year was that I'd have guessed a '96 Japanese model would have had 'Professional' written on the headstock, but, in the '97 catalogue there's an import AT2T similar to yours without Professional on the headstock...though catalogues do contain errors, so...
Aside from the bridge the AT2T is quite similar.

        96xxxxx, 97xxxxx and 98xxxxx serials oftentimes don't indicate '96, '97 and '98.

          Hey Mudlark.

Thanks for that. I think I must of filtered out the AT2T because of the bridge. But the shape of the body and headstock, and the year they were made all seems to match up.

So I'm pretty sure this is an AT2T but for some reason it came with the wilkinson bridge from the AT-1. I gotta say, I much prefer the look of the Wilkinson bridge, so that is a bonus.

          Thanks for your help.

Actually I guess this would just be an AT2 as I assume the T means it is the hardtail version. Seems to be a pretty rare guitar. Anyone else have one of these?
