  • Seems not legit?

Can anyone identify the model of this?

To my ( one Jackson owning ) eye this thing looks like it might be a real Jackson that's been molested... the shape seems right, the volume and tone look right, the neck.
Or is it an obvious fake? The bridge and pickups and finish look wrong.

Looks like a project guitar with a Jackson neck if you ask me.

Looks like a legit, all original, JS23 Dinky with a natural finish.
      96xxxxx, 97xxxxx and 98xxxxx serials oftentimes don't indicate '96, '97 and '98.

Looks pretty sweet, shame it hasn't got neck binding.

          I think you're correct. http://www.jacksonguitars.com.au/ima...js23_dinky.jpg

            Yep... JS23.

That three-piece body just looks strange since the strips aren't even. Don't know why they wouldn't just paint it.

Agreed. But appearances aren't that important to me. My Fusion SX wiring needs attention - sounds better if you whack the volume knob and toggle the selector a few times - but the only luthier in my area I trust got old and died. So I figure I better start learning things for myself. But I'm not going to practice on the Fusion. So I need something that I can practice on. Just needs to be the cheapest genuine Jackson I can find.

They sold new in the $200+ range.

I'm not surprised that the 3 pieces would look uneven. It's a JS series after all. Matching wood grain isn't a priority at this level.

I don't mind the 3 pieces showing at this price point. Everyone knows what they're getting and I think it looks kinda cool (although I wouldn't be happy if it was on my SL3 or PC1).
I had a cheapo bass that had the similar 3 pieces showing and one of them even had a huge knot in it, I wondered, like Joe, why they hadn't painted it. But it was unique lol

Yup, that's the thing about natural finish guitars, no two are alike.
