  • Need help trying to I.D. a Jackson...

I apologize if I'm not doing this right. But after reading a bit it's obvious you guys know your stuff. I purchased my sons first real guitar a few years ago and he has flown by me in skill and is attempting to sell off some of his PAWN SPECIALS for an 8 string. Trans black Dinky style, non arched,3 way blade type selector,2 knurled knobs, sealed Jackson pickups HH, black Jackson trem "Floyd ", sealed Jackson tuners, shark fins, painted neck, inline hockey head stock (not reversed) stamp plate says NHJ1206965. Back plates are recessed and the red pencil writing in the neck pocket was unreadable but I think it read ( 54L3j174). I've looked at the 2012 catalogs as well as the 06 and cant seem to find this set up on any of the models. The guitar store owner told him it was a soloist and after going through all of this process have since learned he was misled by that salesman. Shame as he was a small business owner we were trying to support. I can post pics but I will have to learn how to do that. He has the pics on his phone. Any way thank you all for stopping to help and it is appreciated....

Soloists are neck thru, so if it has a neck plate, it is a Dinky.

Misled and misinformed are two different things.
A lot of people just don't know what they have.

Pictures help. But, assuming the serial is original and wasn't swapped, that serial belongs to one of the cheaper models. Like an X or JS. Made in India or Indonesia.

Easiest way is to post a pic or two of the whole guitar, front and back.
You need to first post your pics on a site such as photobucket or tinypic and then copy the link(s) here.

The serial number indicates made in India, 2012, but neck plates can be changed along with necks, pickups, hardware etc.
        96xxxxx, 97xxxxx and 98xxxxx serials oftentimes don't indicate '96, '97 and '98.

I will get on those pics... He bought it for 5 or 600. Seems we got ripped off. Its new and nothing was changed out. We were trying to figure out what to sell it for and needed to find out what exactly we had. Glad I didnt put Soloist for sale !!! Thanks guys . I will get him to get the pics so we can be sure. So if its an X or JS I'm guessing not much of a resale value.

It's a hard one to pinpoint. A painted neck on an Indian made Dinky? I'm baffled.

Yep, and its not arch top. Seems the JS32 resembles it but no Trans Black option and the pick ups are SD designed. This guitar has the EMG lookalikes by Jackson. And the X series Jacksons that I've seen look much "cheaper" than what we have dots, silver hardware and cheapie pick ups......

Jackson pickups and Jackson Floyd would indicate JS series. But the painted neck is unusual. Aren't bolt-on necks always satin?

X-Series is above JS-Series and have EMG or Duncan Designed pickups plus a Floyd Special and sharkfin or piranha inlays.

Sounds to me like someone changed the pickups on your guitar.

Anyone have a chance to look at the pics? I'm guessing it's some kind of JS series but with a painted neck.

Looks like a JS32R Dinky made in 2012 in India. The 2012 Jackson catalog claims they came with chrome hardware and yours looks black. Not sure of the previous owner did something there as well.

But should a JS32R not have a reverse headstock?

I looked for just a JS32 that would have a straight inline headstock. Couldnt find any. I'm guessing this is some kind of JS that was made with leftovers or some kind of special order. I just didnt think they did that sort of thing with a low end line. Thank you all for your troubles and trying to help out. We do appreciate it....

In some catalog they show them with the regular headstock.
