The only Jacksons I can think of with bolt-on painted necks have been the Japanese Christian Olde-Wolbers models, and the late '90s USA JJP (Jackson Junior Paul). I guess they could have done others.

Roswell imports had painted necks, but you'd know if you had one.
However, re-reading the initial post, you found a Jackson 8-string with an 8-inline head? Not the 4x4 head? Now I'm suspicious.
I think the OP is saying his son wants to buy an 8 string and is selling off his previous guitars bought from pawn shops to fund it. The way i read it this jackson is one of the guitars he`s selling to fund it.

There was at least one 8-string with an inline headstock. Though, I believe he was talking about his son trading in one of his Dinky pawn shop guitars with standard inline headstock for an 8.

Schadenfreude, you are correct. He is liquidating some of his assets to get his new dream guitar. I did remove the neck and found some illegible red markings. The only thing we could make out was something close to 54L3 J174. The J174 was the only for sure digits we could positively ID. I'm guessing we just have an unusual JS model. Again Thanks to you all for helping out. You've all been more than accommodating and helpful.
wrldeatr (cool name) The paint is the same match in quality and aesthetics. Pretty crazy huh. The neck seems to be the stumper. Painted and not reversed. I'm gonna just tell him that it's some sort of JS model and he shouldn't expect more than 200 on Craigslist if he is lucky.
