  • help identifying Duncan pickups in a Jackson Dinky DK2 ? Pic included

Hi - does on a anyone know if duncans came stock on a late 90's dinkys?
    And, what models they use?

    Thanks !

Yes, they did come factory on later DK2's. And I think they're JB/STK1/STK1 but I'm not positive..

Unless someone changed the hardware from chrome to black that's not a '90s DK2.
Before 2006 they came with Duncan Designed pups. '06-'11 had real SD's...same ones warlock listed.

      You must have a 97 or 98xxxxx number? They're not date coded numbers, they're numbered sequentially, ex. 9700000, 9700001, 9700002 etc. 97 is 2003- 2007 and 98 is '07- '11.

Give me the serial and I'll give you a date, or, you can remove the neck and check the date stamps.
      96xxxxx, 97xxxxx and 98xxxxx serials oftentimes don't indicate '96, '97 and '98.

          thanks Mudlark,

I have 2 of these Dinkys that look exactly the same, and I thought the smooth neckplates were 96-99, guess not!

The SN on my tan flame w/bound neck and chrome HW (with duncan designed PUs) is 9693774 ( so , year is? )

and the SN on the blue Dinky in the picture (with the Black HW, real Duncans) is 9796198 ( so what is the year for this one? )

Other than the pickups being changed to duncans in 2003, are there any other changes that you know of?

Is there a consistent or accepted fair price range for these years of Dinkys (the two with the serial numbers I provided) ?

          thanks,

          Jeff

            9693xxx should be '02-'03 and 9796xxx should be '07.

The change was '06, not '03. The pups and hardware changed, but I don't recall any other changes in the DK2. I may be corrected.

As for value, in todays market, DK2's are readily available on craigslist and other such classifieds in the $300 range, some with a molded Jackson case.
It's a great time to buy used, a terrible time to sell. Been that way for years, really.

Oh, also - these years do not have the quartersawn, graphite reinforced necks found on the newer 'pros' (the ones with with no neck plate) do they?

I could talk Jacksons all day. Unfortunately, I'm on my way to do a 3pm-12:30am shift at work. In a huge lumber mill. +30 Celsius outdoors, +40 Celsius indoors. 3

I think the singles are stk-4? Probably a Duncan Jb in the bridge. You can take them out and they will say on the bottom.

Thanks, well sure I knew I could take em out, just have so much other stuff to do, and anyway it turned out I was corrected about the year mfg. so I'm glad I posted.

And I thought it would be an easy answer from the forum.

Now, even if they're not JB/STK in the guitar, I know what they should be.

                          thanks alot

The 2006 catalogue says JB bridge, STK-1 Classic in middle and neck. Catalogues are full of errors, but I feel this time the correct specs are as listed.

That confounds me a little, that they put the same pickups in a $300-$400 (2007, used) guitar as what came standard in my $1600 (2012, used) USA Soloist w/ flame maple top, etc.. - which do sound great.. just a little interesting... You'd think the soloist would come equipped something better than a guitar 4 times cheaper from the same manufacturer.
