  • Jackson Identification Help!

    Hello,

I'm contemplating buying a Jackson guitar from a pawn shop and I need help with identifying it. The serial number is 98288958. It also has 2 emg pickups. The guy in the shop was all sketchy about me taking pictures so I have none.

Gonna' need a pic or a very detailed description since a serial won't reveal the model. If the shop owner wouldn't let me take a picture in order to identify the model, I'd get sour, quickly.

If you're certain the number is 8 digits long, 98xxxxxx means made in India 1998.
    A 7 digit number 98xxxxx is either '98 or 2007-11 Japan.
If it's a mutt (neck swapped, etc.), the serial may not even match the guitar.

    Body shape?
    Archtop or flat?
    Dot or sharkfin inlays?
    Number of frets?
    Reverse or standard headstock?
    Pickups HH, HSS, other?
    Tremolo or not?
    Hardware colour?
    Body colour/graphic?
Anything written on the headstock other than Jackson?

    96xxxxx, 97xxxxx and 98xxxxx serials oftentimes don't indicate '96, '97 and '98.
