  • 1996 rr4 id?

    Hi all,
Been a lurker with a account for awhile. I like Jackson guitars and have 2 in my collection(RR5 & RR4?).

Ive had this guitar for little over a year. I think its a RR4, but it has the shark fin inlay, and the RR4 is suppose to come with dot inlays. Its gloss black, has the 3 way toggle and volume only. Could this be a special order or what do you guys think.
    Thanks in advance!!

Damn, how do you post a pic on this forum? Can only get from a URL to show. Do I need a minimum post count or something like some forums do?
    Thanks guys..

I just found a pic on the net that looks exactly like it, only mine has the word professional on the head-stock. Pic from net:

If yours says Professional on the headstock with sharkfin inlays, it would be an RR3. The RR4 would indeed have dot inlays.

      RR3 would also be a bolt-on and have a front-mounted control cavity cover/pickguard. Wasn't the RR4 a neckthrough like the KV4?

Nope, the RR4 was also bolt-on. And the older RR3s were rear-loaded.

wouldn't the only Rhoads with sharks and professional on head be a '90-95 Rhoads Pro...?

Thanks for the quick replies! How do i post up a pic from my PC on this forum?

Yes, mine is gloss black, bolt on neck, serial number indicates 1996 year. Has the black Jackson licensed FR trem. shark fin inlays, says professional on head stock, has a 3 way toggle and volume, NO tone knob. It has the "Duncan designed" logo pickups in it.

Ive looked at that catalog before(TY by the way Toejam) and thats what makes me think its a RR4 because of the professional on head stock.. Its identical to a RR4, but has the shark fin inlays like a RR3, BUT only has the 3 way toggle and volume only.. so weird, or hybrid neck switch maybe?? lol

Well, if you notice, the RR3 from that catalog also says Professional and only has one volume and three-way toggle. And to post a pic, you need to host it somewhere first, like Photobucket or something similar, then you can link it here.

Anything that says Professional is only made in Japan.

Ok, just hosted and posted pics, waiting for approval from admin. TY toejam. So, back then the RR3 only had toggle/volume, and the newer ones have tone added? Is that what is throwing me off? So i just have a 96' RR3 i guess.. Oh well, the price was right and it plays great and stays in tune, nice action too, but I just love the RR5 much more.

Thanks again for the much needed insight. This has been bugging from the day i bought it. haha

No problem. Yes, the old ones were only vol/toggle and rear-loaded without the control plate on top.
