  • NGD/ Neck Plate Question

To me, this neck plate and possibly neck seem to be from an older model. The neck plate 96xx seems early for me, since hardware went black and real Duncan's in 06?

i have a 98xx DXMG and the binding and logo are not as yellowed. However they should look similar I would think?

Yeah, a 2007 model should have a 98 serial, or at least a 979xxxx. Those numbers hit 9800000 by 2007.
Could be a factory mix up since the neck is a DK2, or a previous owner could've mixed the plates up.
Oftentimes the neck is stamped with the year, but this one isn't.

Or, a previous owner may have swapped the original neck for the 9652891 neck and plate and switched the chrome hardware with black. A 965xxxx number/neck would be a 2000ish model and DK2's had chrome hardware in 2000.
    96xxxxx, 97xxxxx and 98xxxxx serials oftentimes don't indicate '96, '97 and '98.

Is the plate chrome or black?

The plate isn't really chrome more of a brushed aluminum look honestly. The camera picture is fairly accurate as far as the actual appearance of the plate. I think your second paragraph is right on as far as what happened, it makes the most sense to me.

Could well be a switch, certainly looks like it. I've swapped necks on a few Jacksons and sometimes changed the neckplate. My Charvel DST star, for instance, got an old DK2 neck and also the Jackson neckplate, IIRC.

Ahhhh...That's Satin Chrome, and was only offered on DK2's in the late '90s and very early 2000's.
So, a 2000ish neck/neck plate and serial added to a 2007 body would appear to be the case.

Thanks guys. I'm going to keep my eye out for a 98xxxxx black neck plate on eBay.
