In search of a Dinky (sentimental reasons)

All that sanding I wonder if any of the body contours have changed?
Usually happens going all the way down to the wood.
If you were just going to change the color you could have just filled the dings scuffed the original finish and had a flat base coat to paint over.
Why did you get long shaft pots?
I get my pots,caps and vintage cloth covered wire from RSguitarworks
If you tend to bump the volume knob when playing a low friction pot will make the issue worse. You will end up turning the volume down all the time.

Could have been a bump in the wood or thin paint lol. I measured the pots that are in the guitar and the ones I ordered are the same shaft length. 3/4". This body and volume knob position makes it real easy to hit that knob... I got used to it on the last Dinky to the point I am constantly checking to see if the volume knobs are up on all my guitars, even my Epi LP. On the Dinky my palm rest on the saddles of the low E and A strings and my hand plays across the strings at an angle toward the neck pickup... Kinda weird but it makes pinch harmonics easier on that guitar if that makes sense. On my old Dinky I put a felt washer over the shaft, under the volume knob and it made it less prone to moving when I would bump it.

I got my used Duncans in the mail today, measured the resistances and they are still spot on with Seymour Duncans specs on their website.

Got the Bourns Pots yesterday... man they rotate smooth!!! The "Orange Drop" capacitors are bigger than I thought they would be. Their specs are:

Just sprayed the flat black primer... waiting for tomorrow so I can spray the purple!!!!

Thanks Decoy. Here is a sneak peak of the color I have chosen. This is a test spray on some MDF. Flat black base, 3 color coats... no clear but we know the clear will make it pop for sure.

Ok... I sprayed the color today. 5 Coats!!! I will be letting it cure for the next 5-7 days then sanding with 600 then 1000 then 3 coats of clear.

Word. I noticed as I keep going into the garage to look at the guitar that the paint is smoothing on its own and getting glossy. I am getting an erectio..... excited to see it curing nicely.

Color wet sanding. These pics are after 600 and 1200 grit wet sanding. I will be cleaning it with a water and alcohol solution, double checking any possible trouble spots before I clear coat it. It will look better after I clean the sanding dust off of it.

I am still working on it... I decided to be anal and I am continuing to hand sand the color. Mostly because I am forced to wait for the right day temp wise so I can apply the clear. I am also applying, to the control cavity, copper foil tape. I have to GENTLY enlarge the holes for the Bourns volume and tone pots. I ordered a cavity cover for the tremolo area on the back of the guitar... didn't pay attention other than to read that it fits the Dinky body... what I got was a black brushed aluminum cover that doesn't fit and the two middle screw holes are wrong. Now I could make it fit and I may if I can't find the correct cover... I'd be willing to trade for one in good shape wink wink.
