Oh, the Kelly has the J0xxxxx serial?
That's the guitar I'd like to see.
    96xxxxx, 97xxxxx and 98xxxxx serials oftentimes don't indicate '96, '97 and '98.

I don't think that "weird Charvel" is even a Charvel. The body looks like a BC Rich Gunslinger body. I have no idea what the neck could be; it's not even the right shape for the Jackson/Charvel pointy headstock, let alone the weird truss rod cover and bizarre logo.

The Kelly is a KE3 with an extra knob/control added between the first knob and the pickup switch. The EMG pickps are also aftermarket. It's from 1996 or thereabouts. A ballpark price to pay would be USD$300 for a good deal. I once owned a 1996 KE3 in gloss black. You can see a KE3 in your exact finish on PDF page 5 of 15 of the 1996 Jackson catalog: https://assets.contentful.com/4jcppg...96-catalog.pdf

That's a legit Wayne Charvel... sometime after his departure with CJ and around the time of his stint with BC Rich. Those were built from BC Rich parts, if my memory serves correctly, so you're half right. Those are fairly rare these days. I don't think I've seen one for at least a decade, but I haven't paid much attention.

I'd get the Charvel if it felt better than the Kelly in my hands. The extra money would be worth it I think.
I wouldn't pay over $300 for the Kelly and case. The tremolo and pickup screws are quite tarnished/rusted.
I'd try to find one in great condition for under $400 myself.

Many would say the best tremolo made would be a German made Floyd Rose. An Original Floyd Rose.

Half right is 50%, which is good enough to get me through school, so I'll wear it with pride!

Thanks, interesting history there. First time seeing one of these. Maybe we'll see another topic about these in the next decade.

Yeah, production numbers had to be really low. Couldn't have been more than a couple hundred. They used to pop up every now and then back in the old days, but I haven't seen one in a good bit, usually in a thread titled "is this legit?" Late 80's from what I remember. These were before the WRC abalones if I recall correctly.
