  • Picked up a new Kelly

Always loved the Kelly body style. Had a few over the years but never really bonded. Just took a chance and traded for a newer one. KEXT Mahogany. Nice neck. Very light. Frets could use a good polishing and will get a setup. Already swapping out a few things to my taste and playing style. 12-54 Ernie balls. Black Tone Pros Hardware and Hipshot locking tuners. DiMarzio Pups to try for now.

Better pics to come. Gotta go tweak intonation and setup and maybe get some loud amp time in before it gets late.

    Cheers!

Nice! I was looking at that Kelly model recently. I like it with the gold hardware, but I probably would do the black hardware and zebra pups, too, and just leave the cream rings, though.

Looks great with black hardware. What DiMarzios are those?

        I dig it.
There's a guy on facebook that recently got that model and he said it's his favorite guitar ever.
Says his American Fender Strat rarely gets played anymore.

I'm all about all black all the time, but I can see that working.
This classic look comes to mind.

Either way works, but I like the classic look of the cream with the binding.

These are the Gravity Storm set which I've been wanting to try. I like a lot of things about these but not sure if I'm sold 100%. My Mahogany Guitars usually get a Norton in the Bridge and a Fred in the neck. Honestly after playing a friend's RR5 with Duncan Black Winters I may go that route.

Sweet Les Paul! I also love Nortons in mahogany; put one in my '94 Hamer Special.

Nice Kelly! You made me go on the Jackson web site. Love the color with the Zebra pickups!

Still tinkering. Had to go back to the original bridge as the replacement radius was off and felt odd. Still tweaking pickups.

Nice. I had one of the RR24s in that wood combo.

Congrats on a cool Kelly!!! I was looking at possibly getting one of these models, as I like the idea of a TOM on a Kelly. I personally think they hit it out of the park with the original scheme on this one though, as it gives it a more vintage kind of vibe. The black looks really good too, but definitely gives it a more modern look to me [which isn't a bad thing]. I didn't pull the trigger on one, as I am generally not a fan of basswood guitars. Any idea how thick that mahogany top is by the way? I have a feeling those DiMarzio pickups sound thick and sustain for days in that guitar!

I recently ordered a used Jackson Stars Kelly, so this particular model is on the back burner for now! Any chances of a demo???
