  • Jackson Randy Rhoads CUSTOM SHOP?? GROVER JACKSON?

So when it comes to these Rr's Im pretty knowledgeable. Owning so many and studying them. But this one throws me for a loop.
I get the Grover Jackson logo and its meaning but Never seen one with a Truss rod cover stating Custom Shop....

Possible aftermarket truss rod cover? I am not sure I recognize the font on that cover (it isn't quite an exact match for the usual "Jackson script" font), and it's easy to swap out parts like this. Also, the top corner looks narrower than I'm accustomed to seeing in a Jackson/Charvel truss rod cover shape, but it could be the angle of the photo playing tricks on my eyes.

Yes the custom shop font looks different for sure. It's more profound where the orignals I see are a bit tighter and more clear.
      Good suggestion!!

Definitely aftermarket one - original cover was black-white-black.

CS covers typically have flush mount screws as well.

I'll bump this thread with really strange GJ soloist. Same truss rod cover, but I haven't seen anything like this.
Gotoh FR is definitely aftermarket, probably, tuners and pickups also. No serial, but frets look fresh, so possible refretting with fingerboard polish... Dunno, but headstock looks definitely strange, color matching, without traditional black plate, poorly finished. But who will refinish GJ and keep this logo?

The shape of that Soloist, and its headstock, looks fine to me. The original trem route indicates a JT580LP trem was originally on there. Good to see that a Gotoh GE1996T is a direct replacement, but why swap the Gotoh saddles with OFR ones? Maybe the owner preferred the feel of the flatter OFR saddles compared to the beveled/rounder Gotoh saddles. Interesting guitar!

Comparing the eBay ad with the Reverb ad, the latter has a "correct" truss rod cover as I would expect if it were stock.

The truss cover is just a generic ebay truss cover.
