Yes, both neck/body are MIJ. Those are MIJ stamps and models. WXT would be WRXT and I'd guess the serial and neck were both switched by someone.

If it weren't for the odd serial I'd say factory mismatched necks, but that looks more like a '94 serial than a 2004, 97xxxxx printing error. I could be wrong.

As for serial formats: In the mid-'90s serials were messy and confusing. Many changes, new formats added, old formats dropped...etc.

It was a great guitar, but I sold it on Reverb a couple weeks before Christmas; got $575 for it plus $85 shipping, so I did pretty well. Wasn't playing it much, plus I prefer thicker necks these days.

If you look where the serial numbers are listed near the top it mentions that 94xxxxx serial numbers were assigned to the 94 concept series that were only produced for one year.

Further research on jackson 94xxxxx serial numbers came back with no results until just now, when you posted this beauty of a guitar with a 94xxxxx.
So I guess it wasn't only concepts, maybe that's a myth altogether. I know I could not for the life of me find any sort of correlation between my neck plate serial and an actual Kelly guitar.
But I know mines a mutt now as well.

Definitely a '94 serial from some unknown model, but at least you know it's a Kelly KE3.

Everything on it is still Japanese as well so it's a mutt, but a MIJ mutt at least.

Why not email customer service with the serial number. Ask them for specs and year make and model. I do this for every jackson before I buy and they reply within 24 hours with everything I asked for. All mine are imports and they still had everything in their database. This is valuable especially for concept series because from what I understood they would produce the same guitar 10 different ways because it was pretty much a test platform.

When was this that you emailed customer service? Fender bought J/C in 2002 and claim they don't have records before then. They're pretty useless and usually refer people here. Anyway, the KE3 was not made in 1994, and we've already established his guitar is a mutt and not a Concept series.

This KE3 is stamped 2004 on the body. Funny the neck is from a warrior with such a close build date.

I woudn't say "mutt" because of WRXT neck. Many japanese production models shared bodies or necks for unification purpose. KE3, WRXT, KVX10 have the same 24-fret rosewood/maple non-reverse and non-bound neck with sharkfin inlays, so why would Chushin guys make separate neck models for each model? Same goes for DK2 line (same neck but with binding) or RR3/RX10D (same as KE3, but 22 frets), and yep, I've seen RR3 with RX30D stamped neck. Considering close dates on both neck and body I'd say that this is factory combo.
Neckplate could be sort of typo or other weird thing that happened during Chushin production era.

NCR may be on to something. I don't know why it didn't occur to me before but this "factory mismatching" is fairly common in the Ibanez world too. I owned an 1998 RG570 which is a North American market guitar and the neck pocket on the body was stamped RG507 (essentially the designation for the RG570 sold in the European market). The neck was stamped ARG570 (correct model, and we believe the A stands for All Access Neck Joint).

My feeling is that if the neck fits well and the guitar intonates properly, no harm done. Bonus if the neck has extra features you enjoy (binding, inlays, different/nicer woods, different color hardware, etc.).

Not just the neck, like you guys said. Could be swapped or factory. I feel like I'm leaning swapped more though myself just because yous mentioned that the ke3 from that year should have chrome no?
Every last piece on this guitar is black in terms of hardware.
But like you also said. Everything is swappable.

Chrome hardware on Japanese imports.
Is there a chart/info on what models had it and what years?

Main reason I'm asking is I spotted what is being posted as a DR2 (dinky reverse) from '97 but it has chrome bridge, tuners etc.. a chrome neck plate and a mid 97xxxxx serial.

Any ideas what's going on there?
It's got detonators in neck/bridge as well.

The DR2 was a budget USA model with chrome hardware, plus the import JT580LP bridge. It also had real Duncan pickups; a Jazz neck and Screamin Demon bridge.

That's a DX10D^^ from 2003+. Those serials are rarely date coded, but some are.

There are exceptions, but oftentimes 2006 and later had black hardware. This was mainly on Japanese pro series models that had chrome prior to '06.

I spotted that DX10D ad mere moments after the seller posted it. I live in the area and thus it caught my attention immediately. I am the one who informed him that it was a DX10D but he keeps insisting it's a DR2 and refuses to amend his ad, only adding a paragraph in his description that "it may be a DX10D but I'm sticking to my guns that it's a DR2 HURRRRR DURRRRRR"

Even with the best intentions, can't help some people sometimes.

The pickups are not Detonators, but rather just the stock Duncan Designed pickups for that DX10D model.

See so many people listing supposed 90s japanes guitars that have chrome hardware and detonator pups.

Also if its Japanese with real Duncan's its 2006+ if there original pups?
