  • Jackson SL7 question

I’m thinking of purchasing a new Jackson Pro SL7 7-string guitar, But I’m curious about replacing the stock passive pick ups with active pick ups. Which active pick ups by Seymour Duncan or EMG are designed to fit directly in this model guitar? ( without additional pick up routing necessary )

    Thanks!

I can't comment on this guitar, as I've never owned one. However, I found that the pickup routes in one of my USA Warriors (WR1) had to be slightly filed back to allow the EMG 81/85 set to be dropped in. IIRC, Seymour Duncan Active pickups aren't as wide. I imagine the same situation with the SL7.

That's something you may want to check with Jackson to make sure. Considering that active pickups come in that plastic housing. Not to mention that the SL7s are direct mount.

I'll just mention that I tried to replace a direct-mount EMG 81 with SD Blackout in my KVMG and the SD didn't fit very well. Not just because the legs were longer but the plastic housing was a mess, the EMG was perfectly rectangular, the SD nowhere near. I ended up filing the SD and not the pickup routing.
