Tuner gear cover

First off apologies if I am using the incorrect terms. I recently purchased a dinky. One of the small circular things that covers the gears on the tuners seems to have fallen off during shipping. Returning it for something like this seems like a headache. So, I am wondering if anyone knows if the cover is necessary and if there is an easy way to reattach it. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Not necessary... Glue? 3m adhesive spray or super glue or something?
