• Dr Newcenstein's Krylon Adventures

Ok, so I was playing with the Generator a while back and came across a sweet idea inspired by a Les Paul I saw on Gbase once. Sooooo I picked up some Krylon and another roll of pinstriping (Auto Zone) and here's what I ended up with:

    The Playboy Soloist Pro

Started its ill-fated life as a plain black SL Pro. Previous owner sanded and shaved and oiled the neck. I put on EMGs and gold hardware, then the paint and gold pinstriping around the head and neck.
I had to trim the Bunny in pins because my mask didn't fit quite tight enough and I had some overspray (most of it cleaned up with nail polish remover and a Q-Tip) and some bubbles on the edges.
I might move the pinstriping further out and use it as an edge (something I couldn't quite figure out before spraying it) and put another coat or two on it to make it all paint and all smooth.

And the two extra holes are for carrying it like a 6-pack

That one's gone through quite a bit of changes! Maybe you can get 4 bills for it now!

        that looks kinda cool.

so does every dr. newcenstein project begin with a roll of pinstriping tape? (where's my poke graemlin?)

Wow thats one classy piece of work! Yeah you could get quite a bit for that if Ed Roman was selling it... Sorry I brought up his name.

Have any pics of the back of the neck. Im kinda interested to see how was the previous owner's result with the neck sanding.

hey newc, you can just buff out the overspray, and save yourself the qtip work. will the stripe tape come off the face eventually? i think that's your best lookin one.

                          Re: Dr Newcenstein\'s Krylon Adventures

                          Thanks guys

Sully - yeah the striping should peel right off. As for the overspray, that's not so much a problem as the bubbles/rips in the edges were (I had 3 places that were bad, and one of them was REALLY bad, so I just decided to stripe it).

I'm still planning to respray a coat or two, but this time I'll make the mask out of sticker paper instead of regular white paper (stupid stupid stupid for not thinking of that before!)

The Krylon stuff is really idiot proof, which is good for me
Spray a light coat, wait a few minutes, spray another light coat to get what you missed the first time, wait a few minutes, and then spray the whole thing and wait 15 minutes (dries tack-free in 15 mins!), then add two more coats, with 15 minutes between each one

Hambucker - Here's an older pic of the back (looks professionally oiled - still some paint near the binding so it may not have been pro-stripped), as well as what it looked like before the hardware change and Bunny
