Re: hard case for me

(Damn you short edit time!)

Ok I'm gonna go out on a limb here and estimate that a somewhat custom Jackson Star will be around $1200 a $1300 without shipping? And I've noticed some non-Japanese people here have ordered one, evidently. You import them through a local dealer? Because this might be my call from heaven. I've been looking forever to find a way to get a Matte Black Jackson RR with white bevels, floyd rose and MOP CROSS (just like Roope Latvalla) (not Maltese, but I think they're called Iommi crosses, he probably started it?). Would this be possible at the stars thing or is this simply only available at the USA Custom shop?

Here's some screens of that model (beautiful isn't it?)

Would that be managable?

(I excuse in advance for this abundance of newbie questions :/)
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

Re: hard case for me

I think Jackson Stars wil not do the Cross inlays.
These are basically semi order thing and can not really do a lot of things.
Maybe you are not even able to choose fret size or neck profile..

You have to order one from a dealer in Japan.

My best bet would be order one like the one in the picture without inlays if they can't do.
Then you take it to another shop where they can add inlays.
That would be the way.

Still, if you were to order one similar to this, it would probably cost at least $1600-1800 + shipping($150-200).
You shoudl send PM to "The Steve Man".
He lives in Japan and ordered his.

USA custom shop is also a way to go.
Can't beat the real thing with Jackson logo on the headstock instead of Jackson Star logo.
You should contact Matt or Scott on this.
The spec is not special besides it has Cross inlays.
It could be cheaper than you would imagine.

By the way, so you want the neck finish to be oil finished?
I think that guitar has oil finished on the back.

Re: hard case for me

I got a quote for a J-Stars Warrior once that said it would be done in 6 weeks, back when the USA CS was taking 14 months.
You pay half of what a USA Custom Shop costs, get maybe half as many options, and get it in about 1/3rd of the time if you go with a Jackson Stars.
And I've compared my NASL to a USA SLS - the NASL is equal if not better (Floyd and 24 instead of tuna and 22). There's a reason these aren't imported to America - they're USA-quality. Some are built in America, some are built in Japan. Tim at the CS has a list of some sort that tells which ones are.
I got that info from a very reliable source.

Re: hard case for me

Newc, are you talking about Grover Jackson or Jackson with small Grover Jackson logo on headstcok?
Because Kyowa used to sell import Jackson and Grover Jackson.
After Kyowa dropped Jackson, they started selling Caparison(with the builders of Jackson) and they also sell Washburn.
Kyowa is a distributor of many brands.
Back in 90's, yes some were made in U.S.A such as Phil Collen model, some Rhoads,Mustaine model and Marty model.

When Kyowa dropped Jackson ,The factory with remaining builders started the Jackson Stars.
I saw a report of the Japanese Factory 1 or 2 years ago and these Jackson Starrs are build there.

So what I am saying is yes they used to build some in U.S. and many in Japan but now with Jackson Stars, no more.

Also a note, there is a company in Japan holding the rights to use Jackson name so that is another thing why They had to change to different name(grover Jackson, then to Jackson Stars).

aha

Well if you look at the finish options they have, they do white with black bevel, or black with red bevel or something.
You can get 'em to do black with white pinstripe probably but it might cost a bit more. I once asked for a quote to do a solid color that they don't normally do and the cost was well between 3 and 400 to add that (so of course I passed)
As for the inlays.. just gotta ask.
I usually tell people to get a quote from Ishibashi if interested

Re: aha

Oh right, I see.

Well those are all good options I guess, perhaps the USA Custom cost would not be that dramatic, because the main difference is the inlays.

Regarding the neck, I would like to have it finished as well, not oiled.

Thanks for the info guys!

Re: aha

Toru - I'll have to double-check the email - He may have been talking about the Grover Jacksons, but I thought he said it applied to the Stars as well.
Either way, they kick ass.

And I should have said "You pay half of what a USA Custom Shop costs, get maybe half as many EXTRA options", but not "full-on" custom stuff like custom body shapes. Pretty much like what's going on with all these "limited runs".
