Re: Jackson archtop pro question

Man it looks sweet in that pic. It'll look just like that once I get the EMGs in it. It's good to know that I scored one of the "good ones."

Depending on what type of music you play you may or may not like the EMG's in there. I threw a pair in there after I got the guitar (81/85) and wasn't impressed with my sound compared to some other Jackson's I have loaded with them. I play all heavy music and I should have thrown something like an X2N in there instead...but I sold her

To me, you'd be better off putting pickups in there that aren't so hot and take better advantage of the Archtop Pro's Les Paul-like construction--how about a pair of Duncan 59s or DiMarzio PAFs?

Re: Jackson archtop pro question

Personally, I like the trans blue finish. Perhaps better than some of the others. Call me crazy. Maybe I'll have to get me one of those to go with my 750. I've got dual EMG 89s in her now but I'm about ready to drop in a pair of Duncan Distortions. The 89s were decent, and they sound nice split and clean. But I just love the Distortion. If, for some reason they don't fit so well with that guitar, then maybe I'll go with something a little more on the mild side.

By the way, nice score.

Thanks for the pics Joel. I've seen those pics someplace. The gallery maybe? I'm going to try the EMG's because I have them, bu tif I don't like what I'm getting out of it. I think I would go the PAF route, but maybe a little hotter like a custom or JB. I'll have to see how I feel about the EMG's.

I may keep the blue color, but I have to see it. (It hasn't come yet. Fedex pushed back the delivery till Thursday. )

Re: Jackson archtop pro question

Came today! Man this color is sooooo much better in person!. I'm keeping her as is. All I need to do is repair that nasty ding. she plays really well, but I need to ditch those Duncan Design pickups. I'll start with the EMGs and see how it sounds. The fit and finish on this guitar is better than some USA Jacksons I've seen.

Thanks for all the info guys. It's nice to know that it belonged to a few of you here.

Re: Jackson archtop pro question

Jim...You're not gonna believe this, but I owned that for a short time too. I bought it here on the forum...and sold it here. It has been owned by about 6 JCFers. I can't remember who I sold it to. I do remember it shipped out ground instead of priority (Bad communication with the wife ). It pissed the buyer off...I felt bad. Stuff happens I guess. I hated selling it...It's really nice. The ding is the only bad thing about it. The quality rivals some USA Jacksons I've played.

So...there you have yet another commonality between 2 great minds that think alike.

DAMN!! Looks like I own one of the JCF whores! I'm in the process of buffing out the top right now. I'm going to try and fill in that chip, buff it again and it should be good to go.

I gotta come out to Germantown and hang out!

Doug,I bought that off you,it is a nice guitar.I sold it for $560 I believe,I needed the cash.Somehow, the neck did not feel right to me,I actually prefer my 750's,but that is definitely a beautiful finish.
Doug,no hard feelings pal!

Damn! I wish I payed 560! I think it was worth it though. I'm in the process of buffing out the top, fixing the ding and changing the pickups. I only played it for like 2 hours after it came yesterday, but it felt real good.

Ok, I was buffing out the top and realized that it probably needs to be wet sanded. I wasn't patient enough to do that yet so I (we) put the pickups in and strung her up. I love the short scale. When I get some time I'll have to rip her back down so I can bring back a high gloss finish on the top and fix the ding.

Very nice !! I also love the short scale. My 750s are my favorites(I have one of each , trem an string thru).I would love to pick up a matching pair of AT pros also.It cool to see you getting your son involved.
