  • Jackson archtop pro question

Anyone know around how many were made and how many trans blue ones were made? I just scored one on eBay and I'm not that hot on the trans blue. I was considering a refin, but I don't want to if there are not too many around. Thanks.

There aren't of a lot of Archtop Soloist Pros around, generally, but I don't think I'd call them "rare" the way a USA archtop Soloist is rare. They were only made for two years, I believe, so they are one of the rarer of the Jackson imports. I'd say about half of the ones I've seen on eBay have that blue finish. The other common color is the 'vintage yellow' top with the trans-red body/neck.

Have you gotten the guitar yet? If so, what do you think of it?

By the way, are those really Duncan Design pickups in that thing? That's a weird choice of pickup for such a nice guitar.

I haven't gotten it yet. It should be here Monday or Tuesday. I've wanted one of these for so long, but I was never hot on the blue ones. I'll have to wait til I get it to see how I like it. I like. I've seen the trans red and the trans amber, but never in another color. I'm sure the pickups were replaced at some point (why Duncan design, I have no idea!). I have a set of EMG's that I'm going to put in it. I've played two of these in the past and loved both of them. I've been looking ever since.I'll post more pics when it gets here.

Hey...does that guitar have Sperzel locking tuners and a small ding just above the bridge? If so then that was my old Archtop!!! I've got some details about it and can answer some of these Q. for ya.

Thats the one! Whats the deal with the duncan design pick ups? I like the fact that it has sperzels. How long ago did you own it? how did it play when you had it?

                  Re: Jackson archtop pro question

I sold that guitar maybe a couple years ago. She's really gotten around. I bought it from a guy on the East side of Indiana...I drove 2 hours to buy it. When I bought it she had REAL Duncans in it...I believe it had a Lynch Screamin' Demon at the bridge and an Alnico Pro at the neck. I later switched them to EMG's (81N, 85B), but couldn't get her to sound as heavy as I wanted. I didn't really play her much because of that...and the ding bothered me too much. I loved the Sperzels though. Some idiot kept the Duncans and threw the fakes in. The neck is a little thicker if I remember correctly...great guitar, but I'm not much of a strat-shaped guy either. Someone switched the case as well. I believe I sold it for $600 or so...

I hit his BIN for 699. I think thats the high end of the value but I've been looking for one so long, I had to jump on it.

Archtop was selling his a few months back, but I waited too long and he decided to keep it.

I really don't know if I'll refinish it or not. It would look noce in one of the PC colors. Maybe solar yellow or chlorine? I just never liked the particular trans blue they used on the arch top pros, but I haven't seen one in person.

They look more of mixed up with Green and Blue.
                        Weird color.

                          Re: Jackson archtop pro question

I bought the guitar from Joel, then made a bad decision and traded it. It had a Duncans when I had it. It is a great guitar. Every time I see it up for sale I wish I could buy it back. I hope you enjoy it. Someone needs to keep that guitar and play the hell out of it. It is one of the better Jacksons I have owned, even compared to USA Jacksons.

Wow. I've gotten a lot of history out of this thread. Even though I'm not that hot on the color, I doubt that I'll do a refin, but we'll see. I've wanted on of these for so long. I doubt I'll be unloading it any time soon.

                            Thanks guys!

This guitar has traveled much no doubt. Here's the earliest I remember it, & it had emgs.
