I havent put it down since I got it. At first, I didn't like the EMGs in there, but I'm really getting to like them the more I play it. I wouldn't mind scoring an archtop pro with a trem.
Anything looks good next to the SLATQ!
Ok, after thinking long and hard about it, I've decided to send it out to Lee at GMW for a complete refinish. I love this guitar, but the finish just doesn't grab me. I'm going to go for a stained top with natural binding and a natural back and oiled neck. I know I will never get the $$$ out of it again, but I'm not doing it for that. This guitar in the right color will be a dream guitar.
I need a little help deciding what color to get the top stained. I was thinking of a PC1 color like Euphoria or Root Beer. What do you think would be a clear color for the top?
I've seen a few PRS's with that clear grey and natural binding. It seems to work. I'm thinking about more of natural wood tone color. Maybe a burst.
I'll be very interested in following the progress of your refin, as I am in a similar position. I have an AT Pro in the same color as yours . . .
. . . which also has a chip in it that bothers me - and I just swapped EMGs into mine, too.
I like the color, but I wish the flame was more pronounced. How about Trans Black? Maybe a dye, to bring out the flame. Do you have any idea how long your refin is supposed to take?
on the GMW site it says about 4-5 weeks. I think the same thing. It has an awesome flame, but it just seems burried. it's going to be a die for sure. i just have stlle on a color. I'm thinking rootbeer. or maybe a burst. I'll keep you posted. It should go out next week.
Poor thing. This guitar has traveled more miles than Delta.
When I had it, it was in great condition and played awesome. I only sold mine because I
was getting a bit carried away buying Archtops. The ding never bothered me, but I know
it stuck out like a sore thumb to others.
It would be a shame to refin in, but I totally understand why. It could look so much better.
That's why I held onto my other one, with the intention of refin'ing it someday. Pete (TwisterAmps)
refin'd his a while back and I thought it looked awesome. I'd just rather see one of the cherry
burst (ick!) ones get refin'd instead of the nicer blue ones. This was Pete's after he did his.
(Pete I hope you don't mind me posting your pic.)
Wow. Thats exactly how I'm doing mine sans the color. I was really torn about whether or not to do this, but I've always wanted a arch top pro with a custom color. I was considering ordering a custom shop like an archto pro with a better finish. I'll post pics when it comes back.
I know what you mean about the finish. The blue actually isn't that bad, but it's just too dark and doesn't show the flame enough.
