The San Dimas necks are, as DM pointed out, wide (hence the R5 nut) and flat. The contour just seems to fit perfectly.

Hmmm.. seems like the trademark for San Dimas neck is the the wideness. And i gather they were using R4 nuts back then.

But why does Lee @ GMW uses R2 nut for his Rock Replicas which many of the members here refer them feeling like the San Dimas necks.

I wouldn't call it "trademark" as the necks changed from guitar to guitar.

As far as why Lee uses the R2 nut, I don't know. It could be that the majority of his customers requested it, hence he made it standard.

Re: Tekky\'s \"Skully\"

it's almost impossible for me to analyze it and figure out why they are the way they are...one thing i can tell you tho...it's not exclusive to strat-head charvels as one of my jacksons from 1990 feels exactly the same way...they CAN still do it...it just seems like the shape of the neck is perfect with that width...
as far as the r2 nuts?...remember all old charvels weren't 1 3/4" at the nut...a lot of them were 1 5/8"...some 1 11/16"...what other players love about their charvels may be different from what i, or you, would like...the new evh series charvels are 1 5/8" at the nut...it's what he prefers...
the only way you'll feel one is either to spend the money (ouch)...or find a jcf'er near you that has one...no amount of description will do it...you need to physically lay your hands on one...d.m.

This is simply not true and I have 3 examples here that disprove that theory. DM has 2 necks that are wide and flat which I believe Mike Shannon refers too as the "Warren Dimartini" profile. I have had several stratheads 1 of them being Chucksplatters Grim Reaper.. The Grim Reaper is 1 3/4 and chunky not wide and thin.. I also have 2 stratheads that are 1 5/8 and thin profile.. and then I have a 1 11/16 strathead that has that similar profile. Lee's rock replicas to the best of my knowlege are based off of the 1 5/8 profile.. at the very least his Jake's are because that's the way Jakes were made.

Everyone tends to associate Charvel with the 1 3/4 profile because there really wasn't anyone else doing that the way they were.. but if you look at the early order sheets both 1 5/8 and 1 3/4 are listed as options ...

If that were the case, you'd have to fly or swim over a very big pond to pry it from my cold, dead, hands.

As it stands you'd have to fly or swim over a very big pond to pry the guitar with a rosewood fretboard from my cold, dead, hands.

I stand corrected. I have only one SD Charvel and was speaking to what I thought I heard about the other SDs on the forum. I've focused more of my Charvel "edumacation" to the Import lines.

With that said, I'll just speak to the fact that Skully's neck and my SD Charvel's neck are almost identical. The only differences being a)Skully's neck isn't birdseye maple and b) Skully's neck has a locking nut. (which definitely seems to be aftermarket)

I'm not certain that the neck is an import. To be honest, I don't know what the guitar is. I was told it was a mutt. With the similar feel to my SD Charvel, this may possibly be a SD Neck. (I wouldn't bet the farm on it though)
All I know for certain is that Skully rocks!!
