Re: Unknown Dinky

If I take the neck apart, would there be any trouble when I put it back together? Should I leave the strings on the neck?

and it's the tremolo that you stick the strings from behind, the one in which you don't cut the ball-ends off the strings.

I wouldn't bother with that POS single-locking trem.

It's a JDR from Musicians Friend. The pickups are junk, but the rest of the guitar is great. And the "pos" trem works and stays in tune. Change out the pups and you'll love it.

I'm sure it works, but I doubt it will stay in tune. I had an Original Floyd Rose II back in the '80s (the first version was single-locking like what you're describing). They will NOT stay in tune with much whammy abuse... unless you put solder on the ball ends of the strings. Anything more than just slight vibrato will put it out of tune easily.

Maybe I just got a good one, because I can wang out with my thang out and it stays in tune.

Jackson Dinky Reverse. Now that I think about it, I've actually got one of those H/S/S bodies in black (body wood is alder) from a friend of Jim Shine's last year. It's at WarriorX7s house waiting on a refin and a Carvin neck. I'm putting an OFR and black/blue DiMarzios in it, as it didn't have any hardware or anything when I got it. And the five-way switch in in a weird spot and more in pinky position like an Ibanez. I'm actually having the five-way filled in and three on/off switches put in place. It has JDR stamped in the neck pocket.
I dug up an old '98 MF catalog and saw there were two Exclusive models made for them... one had reverse sharkfins and the other had dot inlays, non-recessed licensed Floyd trems, but they both appear to have double-locking trems. Though, the one with sharkfins is called a JD-R Pro and has Professional written on the headstock. The one with dots doesn't have anything written on the headstock and is called just the JD-R.

Does the one you're thinking of getting have the five-way moved up more instead of in between the volume and tone as it normally would be on a Jackson, and is it a non-recessed trem?

Mine is HSS with recessed single-locking trem, dot inlays and the 5-way is below the two knobs. There's nothing on the headstock. I wish I had another one just like it with two humbuckers, I love this guitar.

I took the neck out and it doesn't have anything stamped into the pocket.........
