That looks like an import KV3 or KV4. It's kinda like an SL3, but a King V with two hums. I was looking at that one myself. Make sure that it was glued properly. If it was not set right, it could give you problems. Good deal for the money though.

Looks like it's got glue running down the edge of the fretboard. As long as the split wasn't TOO bad, it should be ok, but it definitely went through the nut platform. If the board is separated and not set back properly, it'd make a nice wall clock.

KV3s are bolt on; that looks like a KV4 (neck through).

Thanks Ron. So assuming the rapair is not bolloxed, then it was a pretty good deal do you think?

if you can string it up and it plays fine and stays strong? hell yeah! It'll probably just need to be cleaned up a bit. Keep us posted.

160 for a neckthrough KV? Yah, mon! What Samben said. I have a buddy's Rhoads Pro that has the same type of damage; I'll see what Ace thinks when I show it to him.

I sold a USA KV2 to Joe C that I did headstock repair on. It was completly severed. The bottom line is, if it's repaired correctly (or even good enough) and you get a good deal, cool! I can live with a crack in the finish.

It looks to me that the headstock broke clean off from the A tuner down behind the locknut, and underneath the fretboard. I imagine the back of the neck is somewhat rough, and covered in glue at least to the 1st fret. Hopefully the repair was done properly without misplacing the fret board. I'm betting that at worst, I will have to shave the locknut shelf a bit. As for finishing it off, I'm not going to spend a lot of time on it. I'll just clean off the excess glue, and wetsand to get rid of any uneveness, and then give it a quick polish. I have a brand new black Kahler Steeler, a set of black tuners, and black dome knobs, and for pickups, I'm gonna stick whatever I have in the neck, and probably a SH-13 Dimebucker in the bridge.

zeeg how was dealing with that seller? i emailed several questions that went unanswered. despite the lack of answers i took a chance and hit the bin on the other KV they had offered but ebay kept giving me an error. "quantity must be less than 1" so i emailed the seller again asking if it was still for sale, no answer... so i gave up on it.

I have dealt with her before. I can't remember what I bought, but I remember that it was a good experience rather than a bad one. I saw that same auction. It appears she had 3 identical KV4s with the same type of headstock damage. She was trying to sell them in an auction where you can sell more than one of the same item, and she had a buy-it-now of $179. I also tried to buy one, but I think she forgot to enter a quantity, so the auction was broken. I also e-mailed her, and she never has responded to any of my e-mails. Kinda weird, but if I get my guitar in one piece, in reasonable time, then it's all good.

As to why she had 3 identical KV4s all with headstock damage, I can only guess that they were damaged in shipping from Asia, and she probably bought them as a lot from a liquidator. I wonder how much she paid.

I think someone mentioned before in another Efraid thread that the seller gets that stuff from Musician's Friend Damaged Returns. I got a Crimson Swirl KE-3 body from them a while back.
Only bad thing I can say is they removed the trem inserts from the body and didn't mention it in the auction, but hey it was only $64 total.
