I wonder why they got 3 of the same guitar with the same damage.

Re: Please help identify this King V for me.

Well, I got the guitar on Sunday, and right away, I noticed that they screwed up. This is the one I won the auction for:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...e=STRK:MEWN:IT
Notice the damage on the face of the headstock. It appears that part of the headstock was actually broken off.

This is the one I received:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=3743395546
Notice that there is no evidence of damage from the front. If you look at the pic of the back of the neck, you can see a pretty good lengthwise split. The repair seems solid enough, so all I really have to do is touch up the paint and lacquer, wetsand it, and buff it. At worst, I might have to have the first 4 or 5 frets removed, and have the fretboard levelled, because there is a very slight kink in the fretboard right around the 3rd fret. VERY slight. I won't know if it needs fixing until I get the hardware on it and string it up.

I'll post some decent pics later tonight.

Here's a couple of pics:

Aside from the neck damage, this is a brand new guitar. It has never been played.

Headstock shows no damage whatsoever.

Both tips are perfect.

The scary part.

Zeeg, I'd have preferred to get the guitar in its original "busted up" state than after someone squirted a bunch of elmers in the cracks to make it look like an attempted repair. It's a shot in the dark now. Please keep us posted, I hope I'm wrong bro! If so, you got a hell of a deal on it!

Hey, what's wrong with my pretty little toes?

Well, here's the deal on the guitar. The repair IS solid, but I don't believe it was clamped properly, as there is a slight kink in the fretboard, that you can see when looking down the neck. When I say slight, I mean almost non-existant. Unfortunately, I need to obtain a black R2 nut, before I can string up the guitar, and do a set-up to tell for sure whether the aforementioned kink is enought to require more attention. If it turns out that it does need some work, I'm confidant that my local guy can remove the lower frets, and level the fretboard to correct the problem.

His feedback was positive, so I'm guessing he wasn't too bothered.

I totally agree. At least then, I could take it to my local guy, and have it done properly. It's not even wood glue. Whoever fixed it used that polyurethane glue. As far as I know, that stuff is about as PERMANENT as you can get.

Are you going to send it to GMW to have it refined? That was you wouldn't even be able to see the damage...

There's really not much point having the whole guitar refinished, since it's brand new. I'm just going to touch up the spots where the neck was cracked, and wetsand and buff it.

In case anyone is interested. I just finished setting the guitar up, and even with the very slight fretboard kink, it plays great, and I have the action quite low. Looks like I won't have to have the fretboard levelled after all. It took me ages to wire it up thanks to a bum volume pot, and a Peavey pickup. The pickup has red, green, white, black, and uninsulated just like a SD, but are they wired the same? NO THEY ARE NOT!! It took me 2 hours to figure it out. (probably because of the 7 beers I drank too)
