it sounds bloody killer , I'll take pics when I finally get my diamond plate pickgard stuff from budman in a month or so . this is the 1st time I have ever got a new active pickup I have always used passive ones , real similar tone to my h3's with a bit more balls and cause it will be a 1 hum guitar thats what I needed . very cool for a bridge pickup I didn't know it would work that well . //Steve

Sounds great I have a Rhaods professional as my Jackson guitar with 2 Hums and a licensed floyd... I also like to change my pickups as well...

Re: so I put a emg 85 in my dinky ss
The 85 rocks in the bridge! I've had one in the bridge of my Dinky HX with a 60 in the neck for a couple years now, and it's awesome. Not too long ago I got a ZW set for my Les Paul and put the 85 in the bridge and 81 in the neck. To me, it makes more sense to have a warmer pup in the bridge and a brighter one in the neck so that they balance out better and the neck position won't sound as muddy once you get a great sound on the bridge. I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

Dito. I wasn't a believer until I put an 81/85 set in my archtop pro. I figured I would try the 85 in the bridge. I'll never go back.

Re: so I put a emg 85 in my dinky ss
yeah i accually got the idea to do this from you toejam and the emg website [sound samples] , everyone else I know uses 81's and a 85 in the neck . but I am glad I took the chance cause it sounds killer , and great sustain as well you can hold a note when you solo with a noisegate on for like 2 to 3 mins without it [noisegate] turning off lol //Steve

.....also guys my routing on that dk ss is a pool shaped routing job with a pickgard . the passive pickups sounded thin probably due to the semi hollow design lol but now with the 85 in her it sounds like a big bastard soild mahog body or something lol //Steve

Cool. The 81 is also cool, and I had the 81 in the bridge and 85 in the neck on the first Dinky Reverse I had that I bought off Greg Crowe. My Hamer has the chrome 25th anniversary 81 set, and it is cool, but I think it's a little bright and have been debating putting in an 85 for the bridge in that one.I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

Nobody beleives it until they actuall try it.
I got the 85 in the bridge of my Rhoads, much better than the 81 was IMHO.Check my Jackson themed Myspace page, hear some good metal, and check out a little shred fest by me.

A question,
Which pick has more output ?
I am wondering about these EMGs.
[/ QUOTE ]
According to the EMG site, the 85 has more measurable output than the 81, but the frequency response and string interface are different.
