  • Jackson Fusion Professional series??

So I'm looking at a Jackson Fusion Professional series guitar in a yellow/orange burst type of finish. It's got the little switch for the JE1000 mid boost circuit, but the neck has the offset dots that the Stealth and other non-PRO Fusions had.

It doesn't say XL on the truss rod cover and is definitely not an EX or STD model.

Is this some sort of "well, we've got these bodies and these necks" kind of deal that Jackson/Charvel did at various times or a neck swap done by someone after the fact?

Not sure why you would switch from the sharkies to a mini dots neck though.

    Thanks for any insight

Would be helpful to see some photos of the actual guitar. Otherwise, everything I am hypothesizing below is all conjecture.

What DOES the truss rod cover say? I assume it's blank since you didn't disclose exactly, but I don't want to assume. Original truss rod cover with the model name could easily be lost and replaced with a blank one.

Yellow/orange burst type of finish with mid-sweep mini-switch would indicate Fusion Professional Pro body, probably cherry sunburst: https://guitarinside.com/Jackson_Fus...o_professional

There were Fusions that had offset dot inlays:

Fusion Std: https://guitarinside.com/Jackson_Fus...d_professional (This had a matching headstock. Is the headstock finished in something other than cherry sunburst? This might indicate a mutt.)

Fusion Plus: https://guitarinside.com/Jackson_Fus...s_professional (again, matching headstock)

    Fusion HH: https://guitarinside.com/Jackson_Fusion_HH_professional

    Fusion EX: https://guitarinside.com/Jackson_Fusion_EX_professional

    Fusion LT: https://guitarinside.com/Jackson_Fusion_LT_professional

    Fusion FX1: https://guitarinside.com/Jackson_Fus...1_professional

Worst case scenario is that it's a 25.5" scale neck mated to a Fusion body. Let's hope not.

Having a really tough time posting images on this forum. It's kind of sounding like this is a PRO body with a different Fusion neck though

        Yup, that's my hunch too.

To post pics, choose any free image hosting website (https://www.google.ca/search?newwind...31.u4wgGZpx4xw), register an account if required, upload the images, and copy-paste the generated links back here on this forum.

I personally use www.Imgur.com as my image host, but there are plenty of others that offer similar functionality and ease of use.

        Looking forward to the pics.

A couple photos that show the Fusion (Pro Mutt) in question. My fear is 1. For what it is it's overpriced. 2. If the neck isn't even a Fusion neck that would be bad. I've seen a Charvel Fusion that looks in pretty good shape that's less and also appears to have the mid boost switch. How do the Charvel Fusions compare to the Jackson Fusions?

Fusions don't come with a mid boost. They come with the JE-1500 active wah. The body looks legit for a PRO. Someone likely wanted the bound ebony sharky neck and swapped for a lesser neck. That is likely a Fusion neck, but you can measure from the neck to the 12th fret. if it is equal to (24.75" / 2) 12.375" then it is a Fusion. Since it has a less than PRO neck and swapped bridge pickup, I'd pay at most $300 with case. If it was a true unmolested PRO I'd go $500.

I agree with DonP's pricing and measuring recommendation.

Just thinking out loud: The wacky thing is that there are so few other guitar bodies that would be compatible with the short-scale bound/ebony/MOP neck of a true Fusion Professional Pro that it seems inconceivable to steal it for building another mutt besides another Fusion. The only situation I can see why this might happen is if somebody had a Fusion body (any Fusion model body) lying around and wanted the Pro neck for it.

I'll see of I can chat with the seller and see if there's some flexibility on the price they're asking.

As for how/why it has a non-PRO Fusion neck, the only thing I can think is maybe the original neck got damaged somehow and they got whatever replacement they could find. The quality of the Professional series stuff of that era is pretty good, so quality and playability are probably uncompromised. Just would be nice to have the full PRO goodies.
