  • Well swapped back to blackouts on the JDR-94

Well, got this POS (naw it plays really good) compared to most new stuff. I swapped from blackouts to the original stock pickups then back to blackouts and added a tone pot and the stupid tophat knobs.Locking nuts are off because I just finished last night and it might need a set up, though it seemed nice last night.
This is pretty much a post because no one is posting anything.
I noticed the concept (new ones are down in price) think I'll snag one. Till then

Nice. Sometimes I think about snagging one 'cause I've always wanted a reverse headstock and last time I looked a couple months ago they were still pretty cheap.

That one looks pretty damn clean. I'd say those Blackouts do sound a lot better than the stock Jackson pickups. I never understood why Jackson went away from the J80 and J90 pickups as they were just so killer.

I had a Rhoads Concept that was a solid guitar but I play sitting down so much that I never could get used to the body shape.

I always leave my locking nuts loose or off and the spring cover off until I know the strings are nice and stretched properly.

I agree with you about the stupid top hat knobs. Spend a few more bucks and put some decent knobs on it.

I have Jackson black knobs, These are just to look kinda stock, I've noticed most of the one for sale don't have Jackson branded tuners in white like they should and this does. Anyway I have too many other guitars to keep clean and re-strung to fuck about too much on this

My WRMG had aftermarket Blackouts. They sounded nice but were so darn high output I got annoyed and put back in EMGs lol. For the record I think all the actives out there sound pretty good but their output was over the drop.

blackouts, especially the "metal" variant, have a frankly ridiculous level of output. the ahb-2 actually has a shunt on the output header that you can remove to lower the output level. I've been meaning to try this out.

These sound pretty tame compared to EMG's in my other guitars. I had blackouts in a USA snakeskin Dinky and hated them IDK if they were different or these just have a low battery

I don't miss with it much.
It set for a month or two without any pickups after I pulled and replaced Original ones and pulled them

Oh, and I've switched out all my EMG 81's to 85''s on my soloist's

Nice! I really like my JDR-94 for the price I paid (about £100 IIRC, absolute bargain). Not sure what pickups I have in it now, I had a JB in it but that might have changed. I put black plastic covers over the 3 pickups anyway cos, as you know, the guitar looks better without shiny polepieces!
Great guitars for not much $$$

Yeah, I agree. I had one set of Blackouts, put them in an RR5 but it was basically unusable because of the output. Never tried another set after that but I've loved any EMGs I've had.
