  • Three sick Japanese Jacksons on Reverb now (Grover Jackson and Stars)

I saw these tonight and thought I’d share here in case anyone’s looking. These are all on the rare side:

    1992 Grover Jackson Soloist Custom - https://reverb.com/item/52070238-gro...-made-in-japan

That was their highest end Japanese market Soloist. My understanding is that build quality is on par with the Professional Pros. If it’s like the Kelly I have from the same line, that trem (which does not look totally original) will be top-mounted and the neck will be angled back slightly. Rare and cool guitar. (Oh yeah, and if someone here does buy this, I’ll pay way too much for that truss rod cover. Very serious, please DM me!)

    1997 Grover Jackson RR.D/E-155 - https://reverb.com/item/52235771-gro...metallic-black

Nice neck thru RR that’s toward the high end of that era and not very common.

    2005 Jackson Stars Kelly - https://reverb.com/item/52773341-jac...05-gloss-black

This looks like it’s in fantastic shape but I can’t speak to production quality. Specs are sick! Looks like it’s a KE-J2E? See entry and linked catalog photo in the list here. https://mechas64castles.net/Jackson2.html.

Yeah, rosewood XL specs on them. I'd pass at half those prices.

There is no way in hell at those prices. There was a Grover super strat listed locally for a few weeks on Facebook that stayed there for a few weeks at $650 if I remember right. Beautiful blue quilt top. I'm tapped getting ready to open up a garage or I would have been all over it.

I think the model is listed wrong, it would either be a .D or .E. Either way, really nice neck thru RR that’s toward the high end of that era and not very common.

These are all on Ebay too at lower prices and higher and the same prices. We've already talked about this Method of sells in Japan! One item many sellers, they mention it on reverb as well.

Shipping is rough but you can usually (always?) avoid customs by using EMS from Japan.

The JT-6 trem on the 1992 model is a deal breaker for me. I know a real Floyd should drop right in, but still...

                  ? That's a Schaller/JT-590 on there.

I remember when a bunch of us on here ordered Custom Shop Jackson Stars (was that 2006ish?) I got a Rhoads custom with MOP and reverse sharks and every other option I wanted on that guitar, I wouldn't spend 1500 on it now brand new so used at those prices is insane.

"Rare" is a term thrown around way too much. There wasn't a lot you could customize, you could get ebony, whatever pickups they had available (emg, SD or jackson) and MOP instead of toilet seat inlays. I don't recall it being an option to order a single humbucker, or anything that would have actually been a modification so, custom is pushing it a bit. you had options, not many, if you were getting custom. Jackson Stars used to pop up all over the place, they were not highly sought after and I think a lot of people who tried to over price them found they couldn't move them and now you don't see them often because they aren't worth the dollar amount people wanted for them and gave up. (Just an opinion based one what I have seen over the last 15 or so years with them)

In the future though I need to remember to not buy guitars while on Nyquil

I don’t think the soloist and rhoads are that bad, but the Kelly? Yeah, no.

I don’t trust the Japanese broker listings. It’s everywhere on eBay. You have to ‘investigate’ which shop really owns the guitar and even then try to understand what they mean condition wise. (70% frets, etc..what?)

You can get it cheaper direct (if you understand the language) but that doesn’t change the import fees and inherent overseas shipping risks.

                      My collection also there!

Ah. You're right. I thought I saw those barrel-looking tubes sticking out the rear. Oops.

The Soloist Custom is virtually identical (aside from the neck contour, the top mounted trem, and the writing on the headstock, which are all a matter of preference) to the soloist professional pro. Fretboard is ebony. Not sure what you mean by "XL specs".

It really is amusing how the Japanese market equivalent model doesn't get the same hype, espeically given that it's actually rarer than the soloist professional pro.

Haha, you should try shipping from the US to anywhere else.
