I have some general questions that even Fender couldn't answer.

A little history first. I bought a Christian Olde Wolbers model that had a broken from a friend. I had bought my youngest son one of the Jackson starter packs some years ago, to which he never attempted to play. The neck from that guitar was an exact match to the Wolbers as far as the fit in the neck pocket, and the alignment of mounting holes. Since then I have been wanting to find a neck to put on the Wolbers, and return the starter pack neck to it's rightful place. I have bought a couple of necks off of ebay that would look better on the Wolbers, but the first one had a more narrow heel and didn't fit the pocket. The neck plate was also off by just a touch. I bought a second neck, which fit the pocket, but the mounting holes are off just a little.

    1. Does the neck width at the heel change from country to country?

    2. Does anybody know the specs on the COW neck?

    3. If the neck widths change from manufacturing plant to manufacturing plant, how do know which will work, and which will not. Since I'm trying to basically rebuild two guitars, I know the the parts stolen from the starter guitar will go home fine. But I'm needing to find the correct neck plate for the COW.

    Thank you for any input.

I would _expect_ (but have never tried) that any of the japanese dinky necks would fit the COW model. e.g. any of the DK2* models. what was the provenance of the necks you bought off ebay which didn't fit (which models did they come from)?

I would suspect any Jackson neck to be 2 and 1/4 neck heel, especially any MIJ one like a DK2, DX10D, DXMG, DKMG, etc... My money is the neck pocket on your COW is 2 and 1/4 inch. I can't remember how many frets are on the COW, but remember to match up the number of frets too. If it was originally a 24 fret neck it needs the same back on it.

metalhobo, both necks were listed as dinky, kelly, rhodes necks.

Razor, the neck pocket is indeed 2 1/4 inch. The starter neck measures just over 2 1/8 inches and the neck that I am probably using is 2 1/8 inches. Neither neck moves or has any over hang when placed in the pocket. The third neck measures 2 1/16 inches, and creates some slop in the pocket.

Likewise, the neck plate from the starter guitar measures 2 inches, and the one that came with the third neck measures 1 7/8 inches.
