  • ordered an SL27EX

I seem to have a thing for these Concept Series. First one I bought was that camo 7 string RR. Now I'm going for this 27 fret Soloist. Should be here next week I hope. Granted, I'm annoyed Jackson lowered the spec by giving it's Concept Series an FR-1000 instead of the German OFR, but I'm hoping it will still last me a while. If it dies, I guess I will have to buy a real OFR.

Noisy springs on a £1,700 guitar?? I googled noiseless springs, but given the sheer number of different brands at wide ranging prices, how do I know which springs and others just a cheap knockoff?

I was also expecting Dunlop strap locks, but the concept series now come with huge Jackson "J" logo things. They appear easier to attach, but stick so far out the guitar, it worries me they might snap off. Might just replace them with a spare Dunlop set.

I've taken the guitar back to the store. They can fix it.

i have always been under the impression noiseless springs are a scam. I usually stick some of that soft padding in them to make them less noisy or stick some in the spring cavity.
Or the springs are just coated with something and after a while the coating comes off anyway.

              How was the guitar otherwise?

It's been decades since I last had a guitar with noisy springs. I can't remember if they wore in, or I just stopped doing pullups on it. Anyway, this guitar has a nice neck, as I would expect for a Concept Series. It has exactly the same carved/arch top body of my DKA-R EX Dinky Extreme (looks like a DKMG/DXMG with Fishman Fluences). I will try to get some photos uploaded when possible.

Bastards. It's no different. I will just have to get a professional to look at it. Also, it's been a while since I last posted some photos. Which is the best site for hosting pics for free nowadays?

noisy springs like they resonate after the note stops, or noisy like they make noise when you push or pull the tremolo bar?

when i do pull up's on the tremolo bar. interesting that it's not as noisy when I take the back plate off which is not scratched. The sustain block is barely a few mm from where the plate sits, so the springs are not touching it.

I just had another look. The springs do indeed touch the backplate. Stupid question, but can I still change the sustain block on a Floyd Rose 1000? I want to put a smaller one in there.

I tried measuring the sustain block without removing it. 40mm?! I thought Jackson only put 32mm sustain blocks on tremolos.

it definitely depends on whether the bridge is recessed or not. not sure of the archtop changes things too. make sure measure before you buy.

OFR and the 1000 series should be completely parts compatible if I remember
