• Straplocks on DK2?

Hey all,
I have a DK2 coming soon from Matt (Mattsmusic) and was planning on putting straplocks on it (schallers).
Can anybody tell me if I will need to fill in the strap pin holes and re-drill them, or will the thread of the straplock screws fit straight in?
Could I just use the screws from the original pins?

Thanks - Any suggestions/tips most welcome

you really should try out "sure lock" straps no I'm not a spokesman, but I have used them for 10+ years

The straplocks should come with screws. If I recall correctly, the screws that come with the straplocks are a little larger diameter, and longer than the stock screws, though I don't think you'll have any problems with using the existing strap pin holes. If anything, you may have to enlarge the holes a little. I put straplocks on my BC Rich years ago and didn't have to do anything but screw them on.

I installed straplocks on my DK2 without any modifications whatsoever.

Ditto. The fact that the screws are slightly larger and longer made the straplocks fit nice and tight on my DK2 as well as my sons. So, I wouldn't think it would be a problem on any other DK2. But don't quote me on that.

Avoid Dunlop straplocks. They wear out. They eventually fail. A crack in my $2000 custom Warwick from hitting the slab concrete floor because of a failed Dunlop Straplock:

I've also heard that about the Dunlops failing after awhile, but I've never had a problem. Personally, I prefer the Schallers anyway, or the DiMarzio Cliplock strap.
Though, the Dual-Design Dunlops are cool since they have a bigger flange on top and you can use them with a regular strap and they stay well-put without the locking part.

I use Schallers on all of my guitars. They are great.

Cool.
Thanks everybody!

I was hoping this was the case as I didn't really want to have to dril holes in my brand new guitar

As for the Schaller vs Dunlop arguement, I've heard it all before and I've already bought some schallers. So thanks for the suggestions, but I've already made up my mind as to what brand.

[lol]

Every forum I'm on the Schaller vs Dunlop battle comes up.

My schallers let loose once. Because I had forgotten to tighted the screw which keeps the clip together. I do that now whenever I remember to do so, and it's fine.

Yeah, I know you already bought the Schallers, which are just fine in my book. I just like to emphasize the fact that Dunlop straplocks suck. I've worn out two sets... the first time I thought it was a fluke. The second time it led to my headstock getting cracked. It did crack well enough to get a n ample amount of elmers wood glue in there and once I clamped it and let it set for nearly 2 days, it's fixed and barely noticable. Still, that was one scary and dissapointing screw up on my part.

Edit: It did take over a year of regular 3 rehersals a week type of use to wear them out. The first time the first set decided to fail was at a show too.

Ugh, that blows! I had Dunlops installed on my Carvin, but changed over to Schallers after realizing the potential for disaster. I don't think you can buy separate endpins for Dunlops like you can with Schallers too which saves on $$$.
