• Model 5 - finally fixed!

I finally got my Model 5 Charvel/Jackson fixed. Dave at fretsonthenet.com was a huge help! I'm sure some of you know him.

I bought this guitar used in 1991 for $260. I'm pretty sure it is a 1986 Model 5. It has the dual humbuckers and a Kahler tremolo. My only complaint has been the fragile string hooks on the trem. It looks black in this awful picture, but it's a strange purple/bronze-ish color (depending upon the lighting). I'm so happy to have it back!

I have a guitar (needs paint) that uses the same Kahler trem. What happened with the fragile string hooks? Did they break? You are talking the hook that holds the ball end of the string, right? What was done to fix it, and how much did it cost?

Yeah - the string hooks hold the ball end of the string in the trem. One side of the hook broke, making it useless.

The first time one broke, I took it to a shop. I think they charged me $85 to fix it. I took it home and played it for about an hour when I noticed a crack in one of the other hooks. That was in 2001. I was so frustrated, I put it in storage.

I was able to buy string hooks from fretsonthenet.com. I bought the last 3 he had.

I'm not sure if they are just fragile, or if I dropped it or what. Having two break within weeks makes me think I did something.

If you aren't having problems, I wouldn't worry about it. And with any luck, Kahler will be back in business before long.

I just realized I posted this in the wrong forum.

        Sorry.
