Re: DK2 Upgrades
Newc,
I had the 496R/500T in my LP Classic Premium Plus. They don't sound anything like a JB. The JB still isn't very PAFish either (compared to BB Pros, BB1 & 2, and '57 Classics). It's a lot hotter and a lot fatter in the lower mids. PAF's have a scope going on - punchy bass and high highs. The JB has a fatter low end and tamed trebles. Does that make sense?
I pulled the 496R/500T a few weeks ago and threw in a pair of '57 Classics, but I think I'll go back to the 496R/500T. That's what the guitar was meant to have. Mine are zebra, 4 conductor, and I have push/pull pots to split the coils. Even in single coil mod, these are still blazing hot.
Like I said I have two other LP's with BB Pros and BB1 & 2, so having a third loaded with '57s is overkill on the "PAF" theme.
I never had a JB until I picked up my DK2, but I like it. I can nail a lot of classic heavy metal tones with it. It goes good straight into a Marshall or threw my Boss MT-2.
