Could you get it refinished properly once you are back in the States? If not, that would be a good reason to bite the bullet and have it done over there while you still can. I don't know how closely the Japanese and USA plants match when it comes to finishes.

Even though $300 seems like a lot, you might regret not having the work done later on.

Well I'm not sure if I could get it done properly back in the states...

Yeah I know... Still not sure what I'm gonna do.. it's a lot of money, but I do want my guitar fixed.. just don't know if I should put down that much money. Guess I'll think about it and make my decision on monday.

Wait til you get home and take it to Steve Spaulding.He is in Ashland now and if you don't know him you probably should.I live here in Central Point and have known Steve for a long time. He has done work for me and just about every one I know.He does awesome work and he won't kill you on price.

I know Steve Spalding.. used to run his shop outta Guitar Center. When did he move to Ashland?

I've never had any work done by him because every time I called and asked, he said it would be a couple weeks before he could get me in, so I just went to the tech at Larry's, who was less backed up.

Steve does finish work too?

Well I'm gonna go ahead and splurge on having it done by the maker, and be super careful with it from here on out [img]/images/graemlins/sick.gif[/img]
Can't afford a hard case at the moment I think...
So I might take some steps to get at least the tips of the soft case really well padded, and I'll get 'er well packed for shipping back to my mom's house in July.
I have a tough as hell gig bag for my Kelly/Kramer mutt, unfortunately the KS wouldn't fit in that.. I wish there was just a tougher gig bag that I could find for this haha.

Steve moved above Cripple Creek a few months ago, I thinks it's rather ironic that Guitar center had a huge fire right after He moved and was closed until just a couple weeks ago.I think that Steve could do the fix. I would be happy to ask him,if you change your mind. By the way what are you doing so far from home.

Well back on friday when I got the quote I told 'em to go ahead and do it, then I called later to see if it was too late to change my mind. They called me today (monday here) and said they had already gotten to work on some of it and would be ready to do the finish work soon, so I'm guessing if they returned it to me now I'd have to pay for some of it anyway, and it would be in different form from the way it was when I sent it in.. they might have stripped a small part of the finish around the tip or something, not sure what all they did. So I decided I'll have 'em go ahead and finish the job.

What am I doing here? Well, not much of anything productive.. just going to school (currently on a 2-month long break that will end in like 2 weeks) but the program here isn't particularly academically challenging, so I'm just enjoying Tokyo/Asia.

Be back to Oregon in July but I might move to Eugene after that (not sure yet).

I'll be sure and head out to Cripple Creek and talk to Steve if I need any work done! My guitar teacher from a couple years back was good friends with Steve and said he had all of his work done there.
A couple years back I had some stuff done by a fellow by the name of Mike Schulz who was working at Larry's, I chatted with him quite a bit every now and then.. he just kind of disappeared some time though so last time I had work to be done I had it done by the independent tech who was taking work from Larry's at the time.. talked to him over the phone but never met him in person as the shop took my axe and he picked it up from them.

Oh yeah my mom told me about the Guitar Center fire.. she said she hadn't been out to that part of town since then so she didn't know much about it.

our album "On Fire" just came out over there (japan)on march 16th. you should go pick up a copy. i think you'll dig it. it won't come out over here and in Europe till june.

I was taking lessons from Jeff Ebnother. He's a pretty good jazz and blues guy.
Interestingly the guitar he kept in his studio for lessons was a Charvel Tele! Hum/Single with a black tele bridge, maple fretboard, pointy head and I think it was a toothpaste logo. He said he had it because he thought it was a pretty cool guitar but he just kept it for his lesson studio because his main stuff was fender and gibson kinds of stuff.
He had his lesson studio in the Drum Stop, which was on Stewart Ave by the intersection with Kings Hwy first, then they moved down to riverside and shared that little building with Musichead. Last I saw, there was a for lease sign on his room at musichead so maybe he was going to retreat to just giving lessons at his home, or maybe he was going to stop giving lessons.. I'm not exactly sure.
I don't know a whole lot of people in the guitar/music community other than that though..
