Past: The older Professional series. These MIJ guitars were so close to the USA's in materials and build quality that Jackson had to discontinue them to keep them from cutting into US sales.

Present: The X-series guitars are incredible bang for the buck.

The X10 line: DX10, RX10, KX10, etc. These guitars sit in the $400-500 range, and absolutely smoke a whole lot of other guitars in this price range IMHO.

Agreed on the 1990-94 Professionals. USA quality all over the place.

Today's best are still the Professionals, but the only real difference between the various Jackson import lines is the hardware and electronics available in each range.
While the low-end models have the crappiest hardware and pickups you can find, they have the best construction quality in that price range compared to every other manufacturer.
Crap hardware can be changed easily, but crap wood is crap wood.

How would a DK2 compare to these?

If they are better, can you give an idea of how they are better?

Still learning. Thanks.

Re: hands down the best made jackson import is?

DK2 = Better pickups and hardware, more finish options (graphics), binding - the cosmetic stuff mostly. Same wood for the most part, though that's comparing the Japanese made models. The Indian made models are almost as good as the Japanese models. Almost.

And the JacksonStars and Grover Jackson Japanese-market stuff is great, but can't really be considered in this sort of question as they're not readily available outside of Japan.

Newc,

Does that mean the DK2 is better that the X series? Is the X series the Indian made models you are refering to?

Re: hands down the best made jackson import is?

IIRC, some of the X models are made in India, some are made in Japan.
Not sure which ones are which (models), but the serial number will tell you where it's made. The Japanese models are still using "96" serials, and the Indian models are using "10" and/or "01" numbers.

Good score
When you get it, take the neck off and see what the date is, because that serial would make it a '99, but to be a '99 it should have a '96' number on the plate. It MIGHT be a 1990, but I thought all 1990 Kellys were neckthrough.
Either way, it's got a MOP logo, the board looks like ebony (could be dark rosewood), MOP inlays, and binding.

Thanks guys!

I'll take the neck off as soon as I get it. I LOVE the neck. I have a new DK2 for my first Jackson, but I love the ebony(hopefully) and real MOP.

I'm not really into Kellys - would I be making a mistake to part this out? Would I regret it?
