That's the score of the century! I'm pretty sure it's a '90 (ie top quality) as they stopped using MOP logos when the "good" pro line was axed!

Congrats!

Nice score! Im still waiting on this one.

Wasnt really in the market but hey, I cant argue with that price. I could probably sell the neck alone for close to that. Plus, I always wanted to see first hand what those HZ pickups sound like. This is what happens when youre shopping ebay for project parts. Ups has "rescheduled" delivery for wednesday so I wont know whats up til then. Although, Ive been told that it should be a jap made axe because it has the LP trem with the locks on top. You could part the Kelly out, though the body is not all that desireable. Keep it and experiment with Krylon

The neck, however, is very desireable. If it's ebony and has no cracks, splits, or other structural issues that will cost money to fix (needs frets, etc), then you can probably get what you paid for the whole guitar IF it's ebony.
If it's dark rosewood and still in great shape, then you can get close to what you paid for the whole guitar.
I've seen brand new DK2 necks go for $250, but the older necks are more desireable.

Nice score on the DKMG as well
The HZs aren't bad, but they do need the afterburner IMO.
Hey, they're basically free pickups, whaddya want?

Carbuff,

That is an Awesome Deal! very good score! Even the shipping charges were a deal!

Newc,

Yeah, I'm a little worried about what shape the neck might be in - will it need new frets or what-not. I hope they don't take long on the shipping.

Im a little worried about what the actual condition might be. I mean, the seller has a music store and couldnt sell it locally for that price? Im kinda glad in a way as I really wanted a beater anyway. A few chips and such arent a big deal.

You'd be surprised - many people still view Jacksons as "them 80's Hair and Makeup Geetars", and therefore they miss out while they plunk down triple the money for a third of the quality

Re: hands down the best made jackson import is?

There was never an import Kelly with a bolt on neck AND the mop logo/sharks/binding. Only the Kelly Pro (from around 1992-94) did, but it was neck through body. In fact, was there ever a 24 fret bolt on import with mop logo, sharks, and binding for a 25 1/2 inch scale guitar? Fusions did for sure, but not the Kelly scale. The Dinky XL had a painted logo, not mop...

And by the way, the 1990 C/J catalog boasts that the Arch Top Soloist Pro is the pinnacle of the Professional series. Since no import is better than an original Pro guitar, the company themselves says the AT Soloist is the best. It's certainly a difficult guitar to build. The 1991 LTD AT Soloist might get the record. The Phil Collen Pro was pretty cool too, and an exceptionally made instrument. Then too there's the set neck Infinity line...

Do you think I have a fusion neck on a Kelly body? The "Professional" on the headstock rules out a USA neck, right?

I don't know, it's very strange. There were no 24 fret Professional necks like that except for the Fusion. It's obviously an early 90's Pro neck. But besides the Fusion, what necks had: mother of pearl logo inlay, mother of pearl shark fin inlays, neck/headstock binding, and 24 frets?! The Stealth Pro was 22 frets with off set dots. The only Dinky Pro was the XL, which lacked the mop logo. I have to lean towards it being a Fusion neck, but that would not intonate correctly on the Kelly...

Didn't think about that, Joe. I've got an older Dinky Pro neck with MOP fins and binding but painted logo.
Damn, now I'm really interested in seeing the date code of this neck
It'll be one for the MOAIP for sure

Well, a pawn shop wouldn't care if it intonated correctly - just if made noise or not. Maybe it's a Fusion Kelly LOL!

I have a heavy (maple?) strat style body at home I purchased in the late 80's. Its routed for two hums and a Kahler flush mount. It had an Aria neck, but it's definitely not an Aria body. I'm not afraid to route the neck to get this Jackson neck to fit.

Early neckthrus are the best. The Warrior Pros, the model 5/6, 650/750xl etc... Anything with a MOP logo...

How does my Kelly XL-R compare to one of the Professional series? I loved my XL-R but it's been in a case for years.
