• RR 24 Fret Ebony Board

Hi guys,
I have a quick question. What is the cheapest way of getting a RR 24 Fret with an ebony board? The Jackson Stars look nice, but seem to have a rosewood fretboard. I hate how I would have to pay 2000 over the regular USA select just for two extra frets. WHat do you guys think? Is ordering from Ishibashi safe and smooth? WHat do you guys think about the Jackson Stars?

Thanks for your help

Most of the Jackson Stars models have ebony or striped ebony boards, not rosewood.

It'll be the Stars then. Or possibly some neckmagic on an RR2 (sacrificing the neck pu).

What's wrong with rosewood? I prefer it over ebony.

Buy a RR1,add 2 more frets and forget the neck pickup.

or just deal with 22 frets. 2 extra frets is really no big deal. at least not enough to go through the trouble to get a 24fret RR.

The Jackson Stars is probably the best way to go for that sort of thing. I wanted the same thing for awhile but settled for a regular dinky shape instead.

True. If you require the extra frets (classical pieces, etc...), I say go all out for a used Rand, Caparison, Hamer Californian and get even more frets. No need in having an RR shape specifically.

Damn Alexi and Roope fanboys!
Just kidding dude. Why not just get yourself a kv2? 24 fret RR's do seem nice but it's a shame they don't have any for us floyd users.

if you can live with a bolt on, I'd say get a JS35RR and pimp the hell out of it...
sure, there's a need for fresh PUs and the board is not ebony, but replaceable.
that, stars or custom. I don't see any other choices, if that's what you want...

Re: RR 24 Fret Ebony Board

First off.... you guys rock. I see now why this forum requires authorization: it makes it more pro (I admit I was pissed at first hehe).

SECOND:
Yes, the Kevin Bond signature has only 22 frets... also.. and this is a matter of taste... I'm not a particular fan of the pentagram inlays nor the brutal massive set bridge (not ideology, just not what I want).
About the ebony board.. I'm a sucker for ebony boards, love the look, the feel, and the snappy sounds. I checked over at ishibashi and jacksonstars.com and it the models have rosewood fretboards. EDIT: I just checked again and the guitar is nowhere to be seen on ishibashi.. oh well.. i'm on crack? not! it was something like RRJ1E or something like that..

MOGAR: thats too funny you noticed!!! Yes, i'm a little alexi and roope bitch myself! But to be honest, I do play other music that requires 24 frets (classical pieces.. vivaldi.. hehe you know why i'm laughing.. cuz its still somewhat bodom influence)..
MICHA: I looked at your option.. but I'm spoiled with neck thrus...if i'm going to spend money, its gonna be good and what I really want...but thats not a bad idea.. and i love modding..

Now on to my next question (if thats ok): I see that some of you suggested getting an RR1 and adding two frets and sacrificing the neck pickup.. YES I WOULD DO THAT!!! for one, its gonna be my metal guitar.. when i want a neck tone.. i'll pick up my SG or strat or whatever.. or tap the 89 i'm putting in the bridge for single coil madness..
second.. I would love to do that because I would love to have an ebony RR with NO INLAYS (yes its a crime against mother pearl, but its my taste)...
question is.. woulnd't I have to fill up the neck cavity..and how the hell do you go around adding to frets? change the fretboard? Isn't that costly?
Probably not a bad idea to get a used mint RR1.. ditch the fretboard and neck pickup, get it serviced and have my dream guitar (at last)..
how much would the gutting cost? YOu guys know buying in japan.. is it actually cheaper?

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR ANSWERS..i've been wanting this guitar for so damn long and never found good info online. At the very least you guys are giving me good ways of thinking about this (replacing fretboard, for example.. hadn't thought about that...
last question.. is it even possible to replace the fretboard? would it sit flush with the body?

ok i'm over. yow yow! regards

I am sure Ishibashi has 24 fret RRs in stock. Just e-mail them, even if they don't they can get one for you. And there are lots of ebony board RR models in Jackson Stars line.

If you pick up a used RR3 on eBay, then have someone replace the rosewood fretboard with an ebony one with 2 extra frets I think that you could do that for a pretty good price +/- cost of making the neck pickup disappear.
