Most of the Jackson Stars models have ebony or striped ebony boards, not rosewood.

[/ QUOTE ]

what's the difference between ebony and striped ebony ?

skarhead: Cosmetic difference. Regular ebony is uniformly black in appearance, while striped ebony is well striped!

If you pick up a used RR3 on eBay, then have someone replace the rosewood fretboard with an ebony one with 2 extra frets I think that you could do that for a pretty good price +/- cost of making the neck pickup disappear.

But the RR3 is a bolt-on. He wants a neck-thru.

@ our bodom fanboy;
welcome aboard btw! somehow forgot about that on my post above...
and yep; this board rules!!

where do you come from if I may ask?
I know a former internet buddy who did this modding to his RR1. close the neck PU routing and add two frets.
he went to the gibson custom shop AFAIK and is more than satisfied with the work they've done.
you're active on the CoB board?
I know him from there, back in those days, when people were able to talk over there, but I'm not about to diss other boards now, had that recently...
his name is thilo, cool guy. maybe you get in contact with him, he should be able to give you some more information on that.
wasn't he even around here for a while?

2nd idea; did you read the thread about the DOC guitar?
it's in the limited run sub-forum. every once in a while an offer like this comes around, if you don't want to go custom or customize, I'd simply wait for another one to appear.

or you steal roopes like some idiot did with alexis...
but I really can't promote that! (even tho his guitars are awesome IMO!!)

Why don't you just get a used rr5?
Then you fill in the neck p-up, replace the fingerboard, and rout for a floyd. Might be cheaper than the rr1 route.

Doh!!! I just assumed that since the RR5 was a neck thru the RR3 would be as well.

Re: RR 24 Fret Ebony Board

veliyasin: Thanks for the info, I didn't know the difference between them either. I guess I prefer regular ebony. Also, I just emailed ishibashi and I will let you guys know how that goes. (THank you Jacksonite for the name and reference.. COOL GUITARS AND STUDIO BTW!)

micha: aha yes i could steal roopes but then he'd be stuck with that ugly star esp guitar and I would feel REALLY bad! I come from Mexico but i have lived abraod many years in Chile, USA and now I'm in Canada doing time (college, that is) I saw the DOC guitar..... SOOO NICe.. and its so cool how it is created and then how the guy just trusted the forumites and went ahead with the order! insane! Not my kind of thing though, and probably quite pricey.

I will look for thilo. thanks for the reference. No, I'm not in the COBHC forum and I see what you mean... since i check news once in a while and tried to research the guitar there.. I notice its very backstreet boyish.. calling names etc.. pity... I will try contacting thilo and i'll let you know how it goes.. (maybe even some pics! I'm curious if the extended board sits nicely flush to the body). I was comparing pics of Alexi's old guitars to an RR1 and it seemed to me that extending the fretboard would make it impossible to reach the 24 fret.. but after closer inspection its obvious that that is exactly how he has his guitar set up (no neck pickup.. i mean.. it travels over it)..

Again, thank you all for your answers. I'll let you know how that email goes.

regards,
brujo
