Re: 7-strings

Schecter 7s are pretty good, but they don't have a Floyd, guitar without floyd is just like a dog without tale.ˇ
If you guys don't convince me to buy Jackson, then I probably go with custom Carvin, but I need more money for that.

I guess all of my guitars are dobermans, then, because none of them have Floyds.

If you're trying to compare the DR7 to a Carvin, then it is really no contest. The Carvin is neck-thru, with a Schaller Floyd and ebony fretboard.

I know very well how good the Carvins are but they cost at least 2x $$$ Don't have a lot of money right now so I'm looking for something cheaper.

I have a DR7T and have had no tuning issues with it at all. I replaced the DD bridge pup with a SD Distortion and the guitar sounds and plays great!

It is a set-neck, toejam. They wait for the glue to set, and sculpt it like a neckthru.

Ah, that makes sense. Seemed like it was set neck anyway since the body is pretty light, feels a little more neck heavy. And I can't see any neck seams on the back of the body either, just the mahogany grain through the slightly transparent black finish.

Actually, it's not a Schaller. It's a cheaper low-pro version, maybe like a Takeuchi.

I really like Carvin (own an SC90 and had a DC400 and DC120 12-string). I was going to order one of their 7s but decided to go with the Schecter instead and couldn't be happier right now. I used to own an Ibanez RG7620 and thought that played really nice with the Lo-Pro Edge 7 trem, I just couldn't get into the sound of the (b)asswood body that much.
The Schecter is a great deal for the money, not sure if they made any versions with a Floyd or not, though.

I have yet to hear a 7 string with a Floyd that the B string sounds good on. Some, like the Ibanez K7, it sounds passable on, but every fixed-bridge 7 string I've heard sounds better.

If you must have a Floyd, spend the money for the Carvin.

Are you sure? It makes no sense they'd go with a piece of junk copy for the seven strings, but use a FRO on the six strings.

Yeah, Carvin uses an Original Floyd on their 6-strings and only a licensed version on the DC727 and 747. They've been using that for awhile before the OFR-7 was available. Not sure if they'll switch to the real deal or not, but they still use the cheapo one.

I altered mine a bit. they came standard strung thru the body in either candy blue , or Black.

No it was stock on the triangle pick guard like on most RRs I removed the guard filled it in & routed the back out for access to the controls, as well as for a trem plate since the Takuchi Floyd was added. So were the Emg 707 in the neck & the 707-81 in the bridge.
